Rox Dhand is an acclaimed historical fiction author. Her passion for storytelling began in childhood, spinning tales for her sisters in the back of the family car. Today, that same curiosity drives her to unearth forgotten fragments of history, asking "what if?" until she has to write the full story down.

Dhand is particularly drawn to giving a voice to the voiceless, especially the untold stories of women left out of the history books. Her meticulously researched work, which includes The Pearler's Wife, The Orphan of Good Hope, and The Trouble with Tigers, weaves compelling narratives with a rich sense of time and place. A seasoned traveler, she grounds each of her books in a kernel of truth discovered on her journeys.

Every scene in this novel is based on real events and personal accounts, so I wanted to make sure I could ground the story in a vivid and accurate sense of place. It's a powerful story that I felt compelled to tell.(less)

Unearthing Stories: My Journey to the Next Book

Many of you know me for my historical fiction, tales like The Pearler's Wife, The Orphan of Good Hope, and The Trouble with Tigers. If you've read them, you'll know my writing process usually begins with a kernel of truth – a forgotten detail, a whisper from the past – that sparks that ever-present question in my mind: "what if?"

That "what if" then becomes a relentless tug, driving me into the hea Read more of this blog post »

Much to admire in this book - writing gorgeous and 5 different POVs expertly crafted. But
it lost pace (and my interest) in the later sections and found myself flipping forward on my Kindle. Shame as it promised so much.
