Lei Pin-Up

One of the projects I have for Forbidden is a series of pin-ups of the characters. So I'm starting with Lei. My, he looks kinda ferocious in here, LOL. He's usually sharp-tongued but quiet.
I've licensed this picture under Creative Commons. You can post it at your place as long as you don't use it for commercial use, crop or modify it any way.

30-day trial, Day 2/30: Jason Pin-Up pic

When I saw this pic scanned, I almost screamed. The scanner absolutely butchered 90% of the icy blue tones in it! I need to redo this so they show up (somehow). Anyway…
Jason’s turn! Obviously, together with Lei should have come Sween, but the pose I want for her (which I already did, but botched it) will probably require a bit more nimbleness in my skills. It is a very hard pose… Anyway.
Jason is a secondary but recurring character in the Forbidden series. He’s the same race and rank as Sween (though he’s much older and experienced) so he also has a very childish personality, though in his case it’s better concealed. But he loves to play superhero! That should tell you a thing or two.
Observing Jason, I noticed he actually has a quite rigid posture. He needs to loosen up more! So not the best subject for making fluid poses.
About Jason… well, I merely described him as wearing a gothic outfit (to match his gothic looks), so I was wondering if to make a stylish one or a sexy one. But sexy is not his kind’s style: they are pretty, cute, beautiful and such, but I guess the sexy stuff is better reserved for humans and demons. Just a bit of flesh isn’t bad, though.
The specifics:
• Time taken: Approximately five and half hours. Discount one hour where I cooked, ate, washed the dishes and checked the mail. I am not counting here all the time I needed to get Jason in a relaxed pose (two hours, including massage).
• Media used: color pencils and black pen with some micromarker and pencil, some pastel. Cool white high quality drawing paper.
• 30-day trial: Day 2/30, July 6th 2018
• Technical notes to self: That pastel sucks, too bad I gave two bags to charity last week and could have donated this as well. I wonder if it’s cuz it’s old? But then again, the Caran d’Ache I have is ancient and doesn’t have that problem. Winter colors depress me.

30-day trial, Day 9/30: Mayii Pin-Up pic

Hmph, I think I’m finally mastering making smooth textures with light colors in pencils. So first I use a light color all over, then a medium color for the shading, and then a low-quality white pencil that acts as blender. (I don’t own an actual blender). The white pencil has so little pigment that smoothens the colored pencil strokes without lightening them.
However, I still had to use a much darker skin coloring than I’m used to. I need to find a way to make really light skin and still colored (since the scanner won’t read icy colors)
Anyway, today’s pin-up pic is about Sween’s sidekick Mayii. She’s supposed to look six, but since I don’t have much practice drawing kids, I went with some anime-style design. Love the dress, it’s just as I imagined it (actually, I imagined it a bit darker and I was afraid it would look too heavy).
And now that I got Sween, Jason, Archie and Mayii’s designs I can start the Angel Powers Compendium! Can’t promise when I’ll start, though. Angels using their powers seems a hard thing to draw! I need to just do it, I guess. I can always redo them later, when I got sharper skills.
The specifics:
•Time taken: Approximately four and half hours.
•Media used: color pencils and black pen with some micromarker and pencil. Cool white high quality drawing paper.
•30-day trial: Day 9/30, July 13th 2018
•Technical notes to self: So I kinda mastered doing smooth textures in light colors in pencils.
