How to Become You favorite Author's #1 Fan
This was posted by a sister-friend, Toni Shiloh at her Blog Site . I always enjoy her posts. You should check her site out. In the meantime, enjoy this!
My Thoughts: How to Become Your Favorite Author's #1 Fan7/23/20161 CommentHappy Saturday!! Today I thought I would share a fun post that came to me in the middle of the night. So read on and remember it it's all in fun. ;)How To Become Your Favorite Author's #1 Fan
#1. Stalk Them on Social Media
Ever wonder why your favorite author has so many social media sites? The better for you to stalk them with, my dear. I mean seriously, why else would they share their websites, facebook author pages, Instagram links, and all the others? It's because they want you to find them. And can you really be considered their favorite fan when you only follow their website?!#2. Read all their booksOkay, this one is common sense. If you haven't read every single last book, then how are they your favorite author? Better yet, how are you their number one fan? I'm talking about going all the way back to the first novel that even they may be hiding on their bookshelf. And, if you want to get a leg up on your competitors, review them. Sure, authors say even a one line review helps, but remember you're shooting for #1 fan! At least leave a paragraph informing the ignorant public of their writing powers and why their books need to be #1 in their TBR pile. Enough said!#3. Promote their latest bookYou know that newsletter you signed up for because of step #1? Yeah, that thing gives you early access to their pre-orders as well as sharable links. So what are you waiting for? Share the links! You've already opened social media accounts wherever your favorite author is so use that platform and shout to the world that your favorite author has a new book coming soon. It's the whole squeaky-wheel-gets-the-grease ploy. Your friends, if they're smart enough to like the same author, will at least pre-order/buy the book to get you out of their newsfeed. Plus, your favorite author will see all of your hard work. Mission accomplished.
#4. Ask Your Local Library to Stock Their Works
Some reader don't know they can "Suggest a Title" to their local library. *Gasp* How do you expect to earn #1 Fan title if you aren't asking your local library (and every one you legally have a library card to) to carry their works? It takes but a hot minute to log on and suggest their title. Be sure to share a pic of you doing so and tag your local author and request all your friends to do the same on all of your social media sites!
P.S: some libraries now let you leave reviews. Score!#5. Book Signings
While you're lamenting the fact that a book signing isn't near you, other fans are selling books (not by their favorite author, of course), collecting bottle cans, and working their road trip skills to go see their favorite author. Now is not the time to wimp out. Besides, if you don't go, what will your favorite author do without their #1 fan? They'll probably be shoved to the back of the book store where no one can see them and find out how awesome their books truly are. Way to go.
#6. Write to Them
I'm not talking about cutting out magazines with gloves on and mailing them a letter. We're #1 fans, not crazy. However, authors love getting mail telling them how great and inspiring their novel was to you. Hello, that's why there's a contact form on at least one social media site. Some even give you their information in the "Dear Reader" letter in their books. Yet, you let fear and a lack of a stamp prevent you from gushing about your favorite author. For shame. Go old school, pull out a pen and paper and send them a letter stat. You never know how often they'll pull that back out on the days where doubt and insecurity has created a writer's block.Your turn. Am I missing any steps? What have you done to prove you're the #1 Fan?!

History Repeats in New Story

It sure has in mine, and it does in the Texas Romance series. And whatever situation is being repeated can come from something good or bad. Good from the examples children grow up with. They've been trained--through watching their parents--to respond to a situation with God and His Word as the determining factor.
Or, as Scripture speaks of how sins of the fathers are visited to the children up to the fourth generations, they respond to the temptation in the same way their ancestors responded, repeating the same mistakes, the same bad choices.
In At Liberty to Love, book seven in the family saga Texas Romance series, the heroine finds herself in exactly the same situation as her mother and responds in much the same way, denying herself and her heart because of what the Good Book says.
I recently had a wonderful Party on Facebook, hosted by Celebrate.Lit, to reveal this cover of At Liberty to Love which debuts May 27th, a little over four weeks away! If you missed it, feast your eyes then go to Amazon where it's available to Pre-Order NOW! :)
You could say it's a mature Christian romance as the heroine is in her forties. She finds herself alone after the Civil War and puredee stubbornness claims the life of her husband, but widowhood isn't completely new to her. The lady grew up with one--her mother, and she watched and saw how best to act through the example her mama lived, surely never dreaming she'd find herself there.
One difference is their age. The former only nineteen when she lost her husband, and the latter forty-one. The mother believes she'll marry again, and the daughter, just can't see that happening. Another big difference is that the first is pregnant when her husband passes and finds herself the sole caregiver of her orphaned nephew. This widow in At Liberty to Love is barren and alone, so she makes a decision to find and adopt a child to share her life.

The Saga Continues

Lacey Rose, born in that same story (HEARTS STOLEN), cannot stand for him to go without knowing of her love. A sweet kiss, her mother's embarassment, the family's reaction, and a letter Charley sends work together to drive her to run away.
Just as runaways today get themselves into all sorts of bad places, the same proved true through the 1860s. After the lady of the house receives a cryptic message, a deathbed order relieves Charley from duty long enough to find for her.
God gave me a new song to go along with this book (He started it for Abraham and Sarah's Biblical fiction Children of Eber, and it works, too, as a love song to Him from me :) " I Couldn't Love You More"

Enjoy this excerpt: May wanted to slap that man or worse. Hadn’t he got word about the girl running off? Everybody else in the valley had! “Any ideas?” “How about we write that husband of yours and tell him to send us Levi Baylor and Wallace Rusk? They’ll have our little runaway tracked and back safe in no time.” She snorted at her brother’s lame attempt at a joke. If anyone was coming home it would be Henry. He should’ve never gone in the first place. He’d served his time fighting for Texas, and the Rangers could take plenty good care of themselves. If he hadn’t insisted on going, he could’ve kept Houston and Bart home, too. “Any real ideas?” “I upped the reward.” She nodded. Not that they’d paid any out, but if the war wasn’t over soon, she might have to start digging up the gold her dearest had hid all over the ranch. “Anything else?” “Not really. If she don’t want to be found…then…” He shrugged again. Before she could say more, her baby burst into the room. “Supper’s ready, and Aunt Jewel needs you to come help her, Uncle Chester.” “Oh, she does? Since I’m so busy in here talking with your mother, how about you handle my part? You’re getting so big and all.” Charlotte grinned. “I’m not that big, and you’re only saying that to try and trick me.” She looked at her mother. “He keeps forgetting how smart I am.” “Yes, he does, little darling of mine.” “Hey little miss, how about helping an old uncle up, then I’ll assist your mama up, so we can wobble into the kitchen together.” Grasping both his hands, she leaned all the way back, and he made a show of struggling to his feet in a cloud of giggles. “Why you’re so old, Uncle, you might just die before you get all the way in there to the table. But it’ll be alright.” He put his hands on his hips. “Alright! Alright? What would make you say such a thing, young lady? Wouldn’t you miss me?” “Oh, for certain, I truly would, but if you was dead, then I could get your helping of the blackberry cobbler! Don’t you see?” Charlotte giggled more and turned. “You see, don’t you, Mama? You’d let me have it, too. Wouldn’t you?” Scooping his niece into his arms, he lifted her high over his head, tickling her ribs. “That’s a terrible thing to say, little girl. You want my cobbler, huh?” May loved the way Chester teased with her precious daughter. May smiled. She took so much pleasure in her baby girl but worried for her, too. Lord knew of late, concern veiled any true joy in the Buckmeyer home."

The early reviews are in now. Here's what others are saying about JUST KIN:"I have followed this historical romance series from the beginning and they just keep getting better. Lacey Rose loves Charley and is devastated when he leaves to fight for Texas with the Confederate army. Charley doesn't realize Lacey Rose is in love with him but is both surprised and pleased with the goodbye kiss she gives him. After Charley sends a hurtful letter trying to discourage her from waiting for him, Lacey Rose runs away and ends up in all kinds of trouble. Charley also stirs up some trouble of his own when he begins looking for her. Don't miss out on this book. I loved it!" --Louise Koiner, Texas beta reader
"Caryl McAdoo has done it again! This Christian historical romance, "Just Kin", is a page turner that I couldn't put down until I finished. Its message, "Love covers a multitude of sin", is so very true! A stolen kiss, torn apart by war, rejection, and a letter with news she never wanted shreds Lacey Rose's heart causing her to run away. Charley figures out something isn’t right, but he is duty-bound to the Confederacy until a deathbed order sets in motion events that tests his love, honor, and commitment. I loved this series. I laughed at "the boys". I felt the hurt of Lacey Rose and the anxiety of the family. And then who is Mr. Dithers? A must read. It is full of so many surprises. I recommend this book and this author. Can the two lifelong friends see past their pain and realize God’s plan for them may be more than just kin?" --Joy Gibson, Tennessee beta reader

The 1850 Texas census counted 58,161 slaves, 27.4 percent of the 212,592 citizens of the state, and just ten years later, the census reported 182,566 slaves, 30.2 percent of the total population. Slaves were increasing faster than the population as a whole. But the Buckmeyer clan didn't join the Confederacy for the sake of slavery, they signed up for the love of Texas. You might remember Henry bought a few men but only to set them free then pay them for working in his fields.
Here's a fun jigsaw puzzle for you!

Danger, a Big Dog, and Bombs! Oh. my!

I'm reminded of this song I used to sing in Sunday School, but sing "I'm on The King's Highway"!
Debut Days never get old! October 1, 2015 brings a new series and book number ten that I've released in 2015; available in print or eBook formats!
The King's Highway is book one of a new trilogy --Days of Dread--by Christian author Caryl McAdoo. Classified as a mid-grade dystopia, it's written to bolster the faith of young believers that in all circumstances, God is with them and watching over them and will keep, guide and provide for them through the terrible days such as the world has never known.
This is a story of survival. It's...well here, rather than me telling you, let me share a review or four :)

The King’s Highway is a C. S. Lewis-type story, using symbolisms of the Bible. I loved the book! Loved the characters’ personalities! It held my interest, and I didn’t want to proof, just to read for enjoyment. It has just enough building to the climaxes with their adventure along the King’s Highway, with added depth that keeps the reader pondering about God, Jesus, and angels.--Lenda Selph, a New Boston, Texas proofreader and lover of good books

Oh my dear Caryl!! Thank you so much for sending me a copy of The King's Highway! As you know I devour books and I can't remember when I have enjoyed reading one as much as this one. If I really like a book, I can read it in a day. I read this book twice in two days. I couldn't quit reading. It has to be right up there with my all-time favorite books. If anyone is thinking they won't read this book because it is labeled mid-grade, I would encourage them to reconsider. You will miss a blessing. Anyone who is reading age from the mid grades to senior citizens (that's me) will love this book. The characters in the book are delightful. I was right in the story with them following them all the way from their home in Irving to Red River County, anticipating every danger. A fun, fun book!!--Louise Koiner, a Clarksville, Texas beta reader

--J. Raymond, a Jackson, Michigan reader
EXCERPT:

Jackson watched him disappear then turned his attention to Al. “So, what’s your story? You a pampered rich kid or what?”The guy ducked his head then lifted one shoulder in a rather half hearted gesture. “Others might enlist me into such a category during earlier times, but any pampering or wealth unquestionably vanished five days ago with the EMP.”McKenzie almost choked, coughing and gagging. “The what? Are you saying that you know what happened?”“Yes, ma’am, certainly. In my estimation, an EMP is the only logical explanation as to why everything electronic ceased to function at precisely the same time.”Cooper held his head back, mouth wide, ketchup packet open and hanging over his pie hole. “What’s empty got to do with anything?” He then squeezed the whole packet of red condiment, and it dropped in globs between his lips. He then tossed in a sardine.Al put on quite a superior I-can’t-believe-you-didn’t-get-it expression. “Cooper, E-M-P. You know. It’s Starfish Prime all over again.”Right back, McKenzie gave him one of those stop-being-a-smart-alec looks Jackson knew so well. “Good grief, lighten up, Einstein. He’s only nine! Now how about you tell us exactly what you’re talking about. Except this time, leave out the riddles and sea creatures. What do those initials stand for?”“Acronym. They’re an acronym for Electromagnetic Pulse. Someone must have set off a nuclear explosion high in the atmosphere, probably somewhere over Kansas—at least that’s the logical place. I can only presume the outage extends coast to coast. Nothing else makes sense.”
I just know you're going to fall in love with the dog, a Great Pyrenees named Boggs who loves the siblings running for their lives. Jackson (15), McKenzie (13) and Cooper (9) are on foot, traveling from their home in Irving, Texas to their grandparents' in Northeast Texas. They pickup a few extra travelers on their way. I hope you love them all!

My mother had reached her wit's end. She had exhausted every tool known to her and three counselors. It was the summer of 1999 and I was 16 years old. I remember the hatred I had for my mother when she told me I would be spending the summer at my grandparent's farm.
I said, "I'm not going." This resulted in a suitcase of my clothes on the front porch. I was told to get in the car, or get out. I remember her exact words, "I love you too much to watch you destroy your life. If you want to continue down this path, do it in someone else's home, not mine. I can't bear to watch. Get in the car or get out."
Tonight, 16 years later, I am at that ranch as we prepare to bury the most influential man of my life, my Papaw Joe. As I prepare for the toughest eulogy of my life, I am reading through the journals of a grandmother and grandfather that had unconditional love for a disrespectful, out of control, angry, broken young man.
As I thumb through their version of that summer, I think back to my memories of each day. It was indeed the most developmental, attitude changing, heart softening period of my life. I invite you to join me on this journey though the journals of what I call "The 50 Days Of Hay."

When Maggie's former suitor shows up, it's time for Jeb to make his feelings clear and ask Maggie to stay forever.

In the day and time we live in today, some women have a bad perception about men such as they are lazy, selfish, insensitive deadbeats and inadequate beings. Well, I've got news for you, men hurt too. In this book men are called to the forefront to take their rightful place as husbands, fathers, leaders and preachers. It's a Beautiful Debut Day!
How exciting it is every time a new title is released. It just never gets old. And I know the historical Christian Texas Romance series is one of y'all's favorites! And it certainly is mine, too! That makes the celebration for DAUGHTERS OF THE HEART all the more boisterous! You've seen the cover, but here it is again, because I just love looking at it and figure you will, too :)
All of the girls are beautiful and smart as whips, too. They love God and never want to break their daddy's heart like their big sister did two years ago when she ran off and eloped--plus he was right all along about that no-good Caleb Wheeler!
So the three girls, Gwendolyn, eighteen, Cecelia, seventeen, and Bonnie, twelve going on twenty--make a pact. They promise to abide by Daddy's rules and whatever he says. A noble treaty, right?
But when suitors start calling, it becomes very hard to keep their word to each other. He's so strict, and his rules are worse than ridiculous! And worst of all, the one person who could help them, who wielded any influence over him, who should understand better than anyone and be on the righteous side of the females...isn't!
Gwendolyn Belle instigated the Sister Pact, but before Clay Briggs even gets to asking for permission to court her, Daddy sends him packing. Said her beau needed to have a closer relationship with God! That they weren't a good match! How did he know? And who was he to judge Clay's standing with God. Wasn't that a personal issue?
The young man from California who came to build Daddy a steam engine for the sawmill seemed to be interested, but still, her heart almost broke watching Clay ride off. They'd been good friends forever, and none of the Briggs boys were hard on the eyes.
And then--would miracles never cease?--a new man showed up at the Buckmeyer door, one she didn't know, but handsome enough...older than Clay...a bit of a dandy all dressed to the hilt. Perhaps her Daddy had been wise all along.
Cecelia Carol knew the minute she saw him and set about making him love her and realize she was the sister for him, but he kept paying her older sister all the attention...the only one old enough to court at all according to their pigheaded father!
Daydreams and night dreams only confirm to CeCe that he's the one, but she has almost a whole year to wait before Daddy will even allow him to ask to court her. By then, he'd surely chose her sister or be gone back home, and she'd probably never see him again.
Nope, she had to do something. Something drastic to make him see. She schemed and plotted and birthed a plan to get him alone so she could talk with him. Make her love understand that she was worth waiting for. Then Daddy made his plans to be gone overnight with the timber man.
It was her only chance!
Bonnie Claire hated being the youngest; she just hated it, truly! It wasn't fair that Daddy sent Clay Briggs back home when he was probably the best catch in Red River County, he'd broken Gwen's heart. It wasn't fair! He shouldn't get to choose. He was only a stubborn old man. What did he know?
While her big sisters spent their time planning and crying and trying to talk Mama May into helping them, Bonnie filled her piggy bank serving as a chaperon because they weren't allowed to ever be alone with any of the three handsome young men who all of a sudden practically lived at her home.
But it wasn't long at all before she figured out that one of them--the best one by far--was sweet on her. After all, when her ungrateful sisters spoke in a mean tone just because she asked a pertinent question, he took up for her. He'd even winked at her. He must love her! Would daddy ever even think about lowering his courting age to where she could be available to her soulmate, her one true love for life?
The Texas Romances started only eighteen months with book one, VOW UNBROKEN. DAUGHTERS OF THE HEART is book five in the series and the fourth title I've published as an Indie (independent author--without a publishing company). My first, book two, HEARTS STOLEN debuted in September a year ago, followed by book three HOPE REBORN and book 4 SINS OF THE MOTHERS; that's four in one year's time.
Plans are to debut book eight THE BEDWARMER'S SON in September 2016 with book six JUST KIN--that I wrote 'The End' on yesterday--in January and in May, AT LIBERTY TO LOVE also in 2016.
Reports are already coming in that DAUGHTERS OF THE HEART is the best yet out of the series. That is so exciting to hear, because each one of these stories is quite different from the last, and I always wonder how readers will react.
As many reviewers have said, they don't have to be read in order as each book is a stand alone story, but... you'll enjoy them even more if you've read the previous stories. I want to thank you for supporting me--purchasing my books and telling your friends--for reading the Texas Romance series, and for reviewing, sharing, commenting and liking Facebook posts. You ought to pick up The Generations Biblical fiction volumes and the contemporary Red River Romances, too. You're sure to fall in love with those characters, too.
Love and blessings, y'all!

Plethora of Players ~ Mary C. Findley
Good afternoon, folks. We have with us this morning a great character, Keith Bradley, from The Great Thirst Serial Archaeological Mystery from author Mary C. Findley. Welcome, Mister Bradley. We’re here to talk about this mystery of The Great Thirst. But first, we’d like to hear a little about you.
I’m a third generation schoolteacher. I’m a science teacher, twenty-five years old, and live with my dad and my sister. It’s a very small town.
You watch out for the kids as the buses come in. What about that stranger in a strange car?
That was Mis'ess Talia Ramin, the new English teacher. She got the parking lots mixed up. Seeing her drive up in a Tesla – amazing.
It must have been quite a shock to you, then, to learn you would be team-teaching a class with Mis'ess Ramin?
Grant money from the Bible as Literature class would help fix up the school. But there was no way I was going on that trip during Spring Break..
Why would you pass up a chance to visit Greece and Turkey if someone else was paying?
Because I intend on going to ProTechCon during Spring Break, to get back on track for my master’s.
Certain parents think you’re ignoring their concerns about cafeteria menus, remodeling, and this Bible Restoration Project. What would you say to those accusations?
We are doing our best to give their kids a safe, healthy school and a good, complete education. You can’t please everyone.
The next phase of the Bible Repository Project must have been quite a bombshell.
It really scared us. The Men in Black came to take everybody’s Bibles, notes, and memory cards.
You agreed to go on the December survey trip. What convinced you?
I thought those people were crazy, to keep working after what happened. This quest means a lot to Talia and her aunt and uncle. We got some mysteries to solve together.
Our viewers are dying to hear about the mysterious ancient technology you found on the survey trip, and where these finds were located.
I can’t get into specifics about what we did or exactly what we found over there. People still need protection. But I will say that I wasn’t the one who found the most important artifact, or made it work, really. It will take a lot of study and work to understand the secrets we helped discover.
Well, then, maybe you can explain what this Great Thirst business is all about?
The Bible says there’s going to come a time when people will be searching everywhere for the Word of God and not be able to find it.
So you are preparing for the end times? The Great Tribulation or something like that?
We’re preparing for persecution and people having to hide and protect the word to share it.

Plethora of Players Summer Book Tour ~ Shawn Lamb
What a first week this has been on our Summer Tour where you, our readers will meet a Plethora of Players in the novels of Shawn Lamb, Mary C. Findley, Pam Funke, and myself, Caryl McAdoo!
Today is the final day of our visit to Allon. From what we can gather there is a good reason for Shawn Lamb selecting the title “The Great Battle”. Tensions are running high. We hope to get some answers from Lieutenant Avatar, aide to Captain Kell.
Thank you for taking the time to join us, Lieutenant.
You’re welcome.
I must say, I find Guardians' eyes quite impressive. First the brilliant gold of Kell's, then the rich mahogany of Dagar's, and now yours. Such vibrant silver, almost as bright as your sword.
Well, thank you. I don’t think much about the color. None of us really do, it’s simply a feature of our creation.
I’ll get right to the point. In the prior interviews, Kell and Dagar both referred to you, although in decidedly different tones. Kell spoke in favor while Dagar ... well, Lieutenant, not so much.
I’m not surprised by Dagar. It’s his troubling attitude that concerns Kell … and me.
Seems to go beyond attitude, don't you think? I mean Dagar mentioned something about “spying”?
Spying is his word. Kell sent me to discover if there is any connection between Dagar and the rogue. That is exactly what I intend to do, with or without Dagar’s cooperation. However, he’s not the only one being uncooperative.
How so?
Let’s just say other Trio Leaders are not happy with me following the captain’s orders. They need to understand, nothing will stop me from learning the truth. Kell sent me on a mission, and I will complete it.
So Dagar’s attitude is spreading to other Guardians?
Appears so. Why and where it will lead is the question? What used to be unthinkable just a few centuries ago may be come reality. That doesn’t bode well for the mortals.
Kell said you find them amusing.
Ay. But there is nothing amusing about our current situation. Jor’el willing, we can stop it before the worst happens.
You mean war among the Guardians? Can Allon withstand such a conflict?
I don’t know. Nor do any of us want to find out.
(A female voice is heard) Sorry, but I’m going to have to break-up this little show.
Excuse, me, but who are you?
My name is Wren. And, no, I’m not a warrior. I’m a Guardian huntress, and here to make sure the Lieutenant stays on course.
You got lost, Lieutenant?
No! Merely sidetracked to be here. (Avatar looked none-to-pleased at Wren.) You need to work on your timing.
(Wren flashed a lopsided smile.) Only if you give lessons.
One more question, Lieutenant. Is there anything those of us from outside Allon can do to help?
Pray, and trust the Almighty for the outcome.
Thank you, Lieutenant. Wren, pleased to make your acquaintance.
Well, it appears our trip to Allon uncovered more than we expected. All we can do is see if what Shawn Lamb chronicles in “The Great Battle” will have a favorable outcome.

I Love The Craft of Writing

I found myself always looking for something to send someone that would explain a concept they weren't understanding or applying to their work--always with the heart of trying to repay because I received such wonderful help when I was new in this wonderful community.
I finally started gathering all the articles into a single folder in my Word documents and realized I had enough material for a book! Voila! And so I began putting all my blogs and posts, articles, and editing papers into Story & Style, The Craft of Writing Creative Fiction.
It’s written in a conversational tone and I've been told that makes the tools of this craft easier to understand. I've included lots of examples, too. Some of the chapter names are Hooks, Point of View, Characterization, and Dialogue, and there’s an emphases throughout of using an active voice rather than passive.
At sixty-five, if I've learned anything, it is that one never quits learning! It is my desire with Story & Style to inspire writers to improve their craft. It is my nineteenth title, my third non-fiction. I've been blessed to have four historical Christian Texas Romance, two Biblical fictions, four contemporary romances, three mid-grade chapter books, a WWII military novel, a thriller (written specifically for a secular audience) and an audio mystery. I've edited professionally since 2001, and honed my craft at twenty-two years of read-and-critique sessions!

If you know ANYone who writes--whether they've just said they want to and haven't started yet or have many titles published--I would venture to promise God will use this book to improve their knowledge of the tools available to them and take their writing to a new level. Please get them a copy! You can comment below and maybe win the giveaway and gift them with that copy!
Praying my story gives God glory! Blessings to you in the name of His Son!
Leave a comment for the opportunity to be blessed with a free copy!

Are Parents' Sins Visited on Their Children?

Enjoy a snippet from May's Debut Sins of the Mothers!

“Sins of the fathers, have you heard about that?”
“I guess not, what are you talking about?”
The old man held a finger up and hurried to the altar. He returned with a Bible, flipped pages until he found his spot, and read. “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.”
“Who’s them?”
He looked up. “Talking about other gods here, telling His children not to bow to them.” He continued. “For I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.”
“So I get punished for my father’s sins? That doesn’t seem right. Is that what it means?”
“No, not exactly. God is telling the children of Israel how things work. You plant corn, that’s what you harvest—corn. Reap what you sow. Same with bowing down to other gods. The second commandment is not to have any other gods. When you put something—anything—ahead of God, you don’t get blessed.”
“So I’m doomed to repeat the sins of my father?”
“No, you accepted the Lord’s salvation. Not under the curse anymore. You don’t hate Him anymore, do you?”
“No, sir. Don’t know that I hated Him before.”
“There’s no gray with God, son. You love Him or hate Him. But Christ became a curse so that we will be blessed. Still, the devil has a right to visit our parents’ sins on us.” The old man smiled. “In reality, that’s a blessing.”
“What? How so?”
“Well, the child sees how the parents mishandled their situations and sinned against God. From witnessing their iniquities, younger generations learn from the elders’ mistakes. They’ve seen the bad outcome.”
“I think I see.”
“Yes, sir. So when the devil comes around with the same temptations, they can make different choices. Overcome.”
