Great post on YA/MG writing

Lucienne Diver posted a great blog yesterday on writing for the young adult and middle grade markets...
Now, at the Willamette Writers Conference, I heard more young adult and middle
grade pitches than ever before. I sincerely hope this is because these are
the stories calling to the writers and not that they've decided to jump into the
cool pool, because here's the reality: the YA/middle grade market is just as
crowded and as difficult to break into as the adult market. It's simply
been getting a t

2009-2010 Publication Schedule

Here's what we know so far...

Chicagoland Vampires 2 - FRIDAY NIGHT BITES - October 6, 2009
Dark Elite 1 - FIRESPELL - January 5, 2010

and the newest addition ...

Chicagoland Vampires 3 - (Uber fab title currently getting upper level Penguin approval) - July 2010

The bad news is, of course, that you have to wait nearly a year for your next Ethan and Merit installment. BUT, Lily and Scout and Jason and Michael will be introducing themselves to you in January to help you get through that wait. ;)

CONGRATULATIONS . . .

There were 65 entries into the FRIDAY NIGHT BITES ARC contest. I put all the entries in an Excel file, randomized their order, then used Randomizer to pick the winning entry . . .
And the winner is . . . Elaineg8! Congratulations! Please e-mail me (chloe (at) chloeneill (dot) com) with your physical address, and I'll get your signed ARC in the mail!
Don't forget--although two of the three ARCs have been nabbed, you still have one more chance to win. An ARC of FRIDAY NIGHT BITES will be one of the

Vampire prop styling

You might have seen on Write What You See that I recently prop-styled Ethan's desktop:

I've also uploaded a similar picture (with subtitle) as a desktop image for your viewing pleasure.

Reader Jess Johnson also offered up this gorgeous prop styling featuring the cover of SOME GIRLS BITE and a red-scabbarded katana.

Gorgeous picture, Jess. Thanks so much for sharing (and for allowing me to re-post)!!

Team Eel has voted!

Thanks to all of you who've been entering the ARC contest. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to respond individually to each of your comments (or e-mails), but I am recording them and I truly appreciate your interest and your shout-outs.  You still have time to enter--the contest ends on Monday, August 11 (more details below)  Good luck!
Don't forget to join me tomorrow at the Plattsmouth, Nebraska Public Library for my 11:00 booksigning (followed by trivia...lunch...Twilight). I'm so excited! I

And here we go . . . THREE chances to win!

Hello, all! I'm back from my dayjob-related absence. I didn't have much in the way of internet access while I was away, but the lovely ladies and gents over at the Chicagoland Vampires Forum have been chatting away about theoretical plot lines to come. If you need a quick Merit (or Catcher...or Morgan...or Jeff) fix, it's the place to be...
And now, without further ado, here are the details on how you can win a signed ARC of FRIDAY NIGHT BITES. You actually have three--count 'em, three--chances t

My (Second) Favorite Boy

Have I introduced you to Baxter? (Other than the mention in the Acknowledgments of SGB?)

He is The Boss of Me, and he knows it. He's also brilliant, pretty sure he's people, and quite a drama queen. (And, FYI, he's an 18 month-old, Bichon Frise-Maltese mix.)

Best. Editor. Ever.

Looky, looky at what I got in the mail today:

Why, yes--in addition to sending me some fabulous fantasy titles for our reading enjoyment (long story there, but it might have involved a late night of editing on my part), my fabulous editor did send me some galleys of Friday Night Bites.
Can you say "reader contest"? :)
Due to some scheduling issues, I'm going to be light on the blogging this and next weeks, but keep an eye out for details on how you can win an Advance Reading Copy of Friday Night
