They are not the same. "The Art of the Lesbian Mystery Novel (772 pages)" lists and discusses every mystery novel featuring a lesbian sleuth of any profession: cop, restaurant owner, journalist, forensic scientist, private eye, or whatever. "The Lesbian Private Eye (310 pages)" contains only information about lesbian sleuths that make their living--or part of their living--from being a private investigator.

In other words, "The Lesbian Private Eye" will contain very little information that is not in the larger volume but the larger volume will contain tons of info not in the smaller.

Because both of these books will be updated continually--at least in the ebook versions--I suggest you purchase either at Smashwords, where if you buy one version you automatically will be able to download future versions for free. Here is the link: https://www.smashwords.com/books/sear...(less)

The Use of Ambiguous Language
in the Enola Holmes Mystery Novels

There are a number of online threads discussing the possibility of Enola Holmes—protagonist of Nancy Springer’s young adult mystery series—being a lesbian.

Interest in the character—who was created by Springer in 2007—has sprung up only after a couple of Netflix movies (2020, 2022) featuring the girl sleuth, who is played Read more of this blog post »

I was initially interested in this novel because the main character, Dora Ellison, is a garbage collector—the only female sleuth with this profession that I have ever run into. I was even more intrigued when, after I had purchased the book, I found t ...more

I’ll admit to a bias against Jae based on her 2008 lesbian policier, Conflict of Interest, to which I gave a less-than-kind review years ago. I felt that the book had been edited to death with little chance of resuscitation.

I enjoyed this book like I enjoy a good Korean dramedy series. It’s pretty much a straight-ahead story with a lot of food. Both main characters are low-level professionals in big cities that are forced by circumstances to return to their small home t ...more

The first things you need to know about this novel are 1. it is absolutely first-rate, and 2. it isn’t a novel at all.

As to my first claim, Pek is in incredibly skilled wordsmith. Her internal dialogue is almost as good as Nikki Baker’s and her use
