I was actually working as a freelancer for an app that published a lot of paranormal werewolf romances and I noticed three things. The first that the hierarchical structure of the pack and the societies around the pack (specifically rogues and how they're ostracised) were really interesting. Secondly, I noticed a lot of the stories dealt with protagonists who felt like outsiders, which I thought would translate into the queer space really nicely. And finally the third thing I noticed was there was not a lot of queer representation. Because I was already writing a lot of queer (specifically gay m/m) YA fiction I thought this would be a great sub-genre to explore. And I'm so happy that I did because writing this book has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and one that I hope to continue long into the future.(less)
