Excerpt from Secrets Gnaw at the Flesh
Just wanted to offer up a quick excerpt from an early chapter of the book to give a sense of atmosphere.
Excerpt:
The chill returned, gusting so strong it ruffled his shirt. He readjusted his collar and brushed his neck, but the cold remained. Slippery wet cold like a melting ice cube stroked his shoulder blade and slid out under his short sleeves. The ice melted, spread, and submerged his forearm in the glacial chill. An invisible finger, cold and thin as an icicle, worked its way from his elbow to his wrist.
Garrett jumped out of the booth. Wetness textured like a tongue lapped at his ear. He whirled around. Saw nothing out of the ordinary. Warmth returned to his arm as if it had never left.
Safe. Safe. Safe. He forced a stiff, confident posture. He approached the closest of the room’s windows, risking it shattering in his face. Better to experience that now than after losing the freedom to escape.

Secrets Gnaw at the Flesh releases October 23, 2023
Secrets Gnaw at the Flesh, the second book in the Virulent Nightmare Origins series, releases on October 23 on Amazon, Kobo, and other retailers.
What's this about a series? I'm excited to announce that both A Broken Clock Never Boils and Secrets Gnaw at the Flesh take place in the same universe. Their characters and plots are completely separate, but readers may catch small details of something brewing in the distant background. Over the next couple of years, I'll release two more books to complete the series. What's after that? You'll have to wait and see.
The books are written so that they can be read in any order or even be read as full standalone novels. All of them will touch on different parts of the universe, showcasing the unique qualities of this world I'm creating for you.
Now, what's the book about?
Think haunted house horror merged with dark family drama, topped with a layer of worldbuilding. If any of those aspects sound appealing, I think this will be a hit for you. For a little more on the "feel", this is atmospheric horror where the evil forces are out in the open (but it doesn't make the main characters any safer). A good comparison would be Hex. Those who also dabble in horror TV will see some vibe comparisons with the The Haunting of Hill House. I call out the TV show specifically because of the overt supernatural elements and family dynamics compared to Shirley Jackson's masterpiece.
What's the price?
The ebook will retail for $4.99, but it's available for pre-order currently for $0.99. I haven't decided how long this will last, but I can tell you it's not going to go any lower.
