A Holiday Rainbow
Before I forget,
I want to take a small slice
out of this peculiar thunderous day
to wish you the best
this final inch of the year.
Let your eyes absorb
Winter’s wonder
as you gaze at a squirrel
carving tracks in untouched powder.
May the scent of pinecones,
nature’s purest perfume,
follow your nose as your
hands feel unwrapped presents
in stores where bells and paper snowflakes
dangle from beams and vents.
For your ears, I’ll spare overplayed
jingles and replace them with
a song that brings you home—
smoothing the edges of yesterday
with memory’s forgiving iron.
As I wish you these thoughts,
a December double-rainbow arcs
just beyond my window.
Perhaps this paints the picture
in a way my words cannot touch.
Brilliant colors spilling across the sky.
It’s an unwrapped present
given freely, equally to all.
