NYCC 2014 panel & signing

Just wanted to post info on where I'm going to be at NYCC this weekend (it's very brief, so this will be easyyy) --

Comics and Graphic Novels for All Readers

Sun. October 12| 2:00 PM - 2:45 PM | 1B03

Join Graphic Novelists JP Ahonen (Sing No Evil), Emily Carroll (Through the Woods), Cory Doctorow (In Real Life), Kazu Kibuishi (Amulet) and Paul Pope (The Rise of Aurora West) for a discussion of the graphic novel form, its place in the literary canon today and their exciting new books, moderated by Scott Rosenberg, AM NY.

...after this panel I'll be doing a signing at signing Table 19. Info on the signing here. My book Through the Woods should be available for purchase, but I'll be happy to sign anything I've worked on, or even to do a little sketch in your sketchbook or something, so come on by if you have a chance.

And that's it! Thanks all, stayed tuned for where I'm going to be at Thought Bubble next month....!

MICE info!

Just a little note to say....

I am going to be at MICE in Cambridge, MA this weekend! Local comic shop Million Year Picnic will be at the show selling copies of my book Through the Woods, and I will be right there on hand to sign 'em! (I am also hoping to have some little original drawings and whatnot for sale too). I would also be happy to sign/draw in any sketchbooks, of course.

FURTHERMORE I am going to be on a panel called Developing The Graphic Novel at 1PM on Satuday, with Raina Telgemeier and Paul Hornschmeier, so please do stop by for that if you're around.

That is all for now! Thank you and good night!

THROUGH THE WOODS now available!

My book THROUGH THE WOODS is out in North America today, at long last! (It's been out in the UK for a little over a week now!) It is a collection of short stories, all new (except for one, His Face All Red, which is also on my website), all scary, fairy tale inspired, the sort of thing I tend to do. If you're in Toronto there is a book launch event tonight where I'll be doing a brief Q&A and signing copies, so if you're in town and are interested, here's more info!

New Comic: THE HOLE THE FOX DID MAKE

THE HOLE THE FOX DID MAKE is a new comic, and a bit of an experiment in a few ways (being set in the early 90s, it's more modern than my usual stuff, and it's also a strip, which I've never done before). I've been thinking of it as a tragic ghost story (as, granted, most ghost stories tend to be) but also somewhat of a mystery as well. The title, and elements of the story, were inspired by the folktale The Oxford Student. And for folks who use Tumblr, a link to the comic has been posted there also!

ALSO: I'll be having an official book launch for my short story collection Through the Woods in Toronto on July 15th, and there is info on the where & exactly-whens here !

THROUGH THE WOODS preview

For those both aware & unaware, I have a book coming out next July! It's a collection of short stories, all (ideally) scary, with a decided fairy tale inspiration. The title of it is THROUGH THE WOODS, and it's being published by Margaret K. McElderry books.

All the stories are going to be original and ne'er seen before, save for one which is a print adaptation of my web comic His Face All Red. To get a glimpse of a few of the pages, feel free to check out this short write up over at Comics & Cola.

(There's also a matching Tumblr post going around, if you're so inclined!)

Frontier #6! Youth in Decline!

I am very happy to announce that I will be creating an all new, 32 pg horror story for Frontier #6! Youth in Decline has been publishing really stellar work, and their lineup for 2014 has me really excited. I strongly urge you to check out their site, where they are currently offering subscriptions (& other neat stuff!).
....and since I'm here, here are some little friends of various types (click to enlarge):

OUT OF SKIN

emcarroll.com/comics/skin/
Happy Halloween!

I have a new comic up today! Click the above image to read. This one's horror (in the spirit of the season) and -- just as a note -- contains more body based horror than I've explored in the past. I consider it part of a trilogy in terms of setting & theme with my earlier comics His Face All Red and Margot's Room, though they are all of course stand alone short stories as well.

And for those Tumblr inclined, it's been posted over here.

Thanks for reading!

Gone Home released!

GONE HOME was released last Thursday, and I would have posted about it sooner, but I was off visiting Portland to celebrate said release with The Fullbright Company. I'm proud to have had some small part in the game -- the above title image is drawn by me, as are the in-game maps, and the font used in game is based on my handwriting (there's a few other things too). My talented & generally fucking amazing wife Kate Craig was the 3D artist on the game, and the love that she & everyone else in Fullbright poured into it is completely, wonderfully, obvious.

I really think that if you enjoy my storytelling, and the sorts of things that I make, that you would be interested in this game. For those wary of video games in general, know that there are no enemies to kill in Gone Home, no abstract puzzles, and no need to keep your finger twitching over a trigger button. It's a game of exploration, of piecing together clues, of reading and assessing in your own time and in your own way. It's about human lives and relationships, some old, some new, some close, some distant and aching. I strongly urge you to check out its website and see if it's something you might be interested in.

And on the subject of creative storytelling, I wanted to take the time to post the art I did for Ryan North's To Be or Not To Be, a Hamlet Choose-Your-Own-Adventure novel! I was very pleased to be given the 'Canonical Ending' to illustrate (click for bigger version):

...and actually, while I'm here, these are some assorted drawings & general whatnots that I have posted to twitter in the last while. There's a few creatures, a few beaks, a few scales, and also some Animal Crossing: New Leaf fan art thrown in for good measure (not to be confused with the fan art of Honored Matres from Dune, though they should be pretty simple to tell apart). As ever, click to enlarge.
