
This production, directed by Michael Streeter, has been selling out, and, when I saw it last night, I understood why. It’s a brilliantly original interpretation—Judas is played by a black woman, the astonishing Ithaca Tell (who recently played Othello, and I wish I’d seen that), and Jesus marries Mary Magdalene. In a wonderfully Brechtian touch, people swarm around the resurrected Jesus, brandishing cell phones, to take selfies with him.
