My weekend
I've been dodging mini-piles of books since Thursday when I finished boxing (9 cartons) of books for storage. The piles are a result of sorting: Picking up several putting a few into the storage box, maybe a couple into the outgoing forever carton, and unfortunately putting back far too many into a pile -to keep at home-in case I need to research for reprint anthologies. Ugh. Friday Rob K and his lovely wife Gwen came over to move the cartons. He did most of the heavy lifting (It think I carried one of the small boxes down. Gwen carried one or two that I could barely lift). All the cartons fit into the locker luckily. Then I went to my half locker two rows down to grab some more of my own books to sell over the next several months. I hope I can move those to the top of my bookshelves in my "library" to at least them off the floor.
Watched four episodes of Six Feet Under, which gets better and better. (still in season 1).
Next morning I got up early to catch the train to New Brunswick where I was driven to the East Brunswick Library. I spoke about the marketplace, recommended things, and answered questions. Sold a few books and was taken to lunch by the Garden State Horror Writers -I'm always made to feel totally welcome and I urge anyone in the area to join the organization.
Got home around 6pm and watched three more episodes of SFU and then the really dumb but enjoyable Let's Make Love with Marilyn Monroe, Yves Montand, and Tony Randall. I've never been an Yves Montand fan--at least not as a musical comedy kind of guy. But it had some very funny bits. It's weird to see how tall Montand was compared with Milton Berle and Bing Crosby, who both have cameos (with Gene Kelly as well). Was he really tall or are they really really short? Stayed up really late and got up late. When I finally got up I moved a few books around the back room and vacuumed as much as I could -for the first time in a very many year (in that room).
Then I met the lovely Katya Pendill for a late lunch/early dinner at Tea & Sympathy. We shared the Sunday roast, their marvelous roasted brussel sprouts, and a stick toffee pudding.
And now I'm reading....
Tomorrow I will really have to reorganize the book piles that remain to see if I've made a dent.

We're looking for a local to volunteer to sell books at the readings. This is how it would work.
The volunteer would come to the Mobile Libris office to pick up books and supplies and get a brief tutorial on how to use the materials. S/he would sell the books and bring leftovers back the next day. In exchange for partnering with us to sell the book, the bookseller can receive a 40% discount off of books through Mobile Libris, any book, any time.

ebay auction to help out Ed Bryant
Ed Bryant is in need. His friends and colleagues have donated some wonderful items to help him out, including lunch with Neil Gaiman; a pencil/graphite drawing of the chapter head and tail piece for BRIENNE Book Two of A Feast for Crows (George RR Martin), signed by the artist, Thomas Canty; Peter Straub's fountain pens; a fiction critique by Harlan Ellison…books donated and signed by me, original manuscripts by Melanie Tem and Steve Rasnic Tem; signed first editions of hc books by Dan Simmons and Connie Willis; hand made beaded crafts by Vonda McIntyre; and other goodies.
Here's more information: Ed Bryant, Jr., a Colorado writer and all around great man, has found himself in a bit of a financial predicament brought about by, among other things, medical costs. The "Friends of Ed" organization has decided to showcase a two-pronged auction event to help raise funds for Ed's immediate needs.
A live auction will take place on October 23, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency in the Denver Tech Center during MileHiCon 43. Additionally, an online auction through Ebay will take place in the week prior to MileHiCon 43, ending on both Saturday and Sunday, October 22 and 23, 2011.
