I love how nice you are to all your asks! It's like you're friends with all of your fans and that's really cool :)

Aww, thanks! (Though are there lots of authors running around who are super mean in their ask replies?)Anyway, I feellike I’m friends with my fans. Actually maybe that sounds too cheesy for words… To me writing/reading books is the closest we can get to experiencing a Vulcan mindmeld, so I like to think that the people who enjoy reading my books are the kinds of people I’d get along with. I see myself in a lot of my younger readers, especially when I meet them at events. I was that girl stand...

Got a message on Tumblr this morning from a lovely reader:

It was the best way to wake up, and I wrote back (sleepily) with thanks. I was also curious about which post had made everything come together for this lovely reader, because I’m always trying to make sure the content I put on my various social media/blog feeds is good. It’s always such a help to know when I’ve really affected someone, really said something that resonated. So I asked which post had connected everythin...

This is actually one of the best descriptions I’ve seen to date of how the series works, and comes from someone who’s only read book one and knows nothing about what’s coming. (This is me being impressed! And pleased!) This excerpt is from an extremely thoughtful review in general, but this part in particular is relevant to a LOT of questions that amiekaufman and I get about where the series is headed. As an aspiring author, I'm currently writing a trilogy I am hoping to be published, would you say that trilogies are harder to get published as a first time novelist than just one single book?

The unhelpful (but nonetheless true)version of this answer is that no one kind of book or series (be it a trilogy, dystopian, standalone contemporary, or softcore were-toaster erotica) is easier or harder to get published if it’s GOOD. (Well, maybe that last one would be tougher. But now I’m kind of curious.) Writing agoodbook/series is your best bet, and one of the important factors to good writing is passion. If you’re writing a story you’re passionate about, and the story wants to be a tri...

I will just keep entering contests I can't afford the book when it comes out I'm paying for college

There’s no shame or anything bad about not being able to afford books, you know. We’ve all been there, I promise you. I can’t afford to buy all the books I want to buy myself, especially now that they’re being written by friends I want to support. This is why public libraries are so, SO important.

You’ll find most authors are actually pleased and excited when you tell them you got their books from the library. So many people these days believe that not being able to afford to purchase a book (...
