Why Does Sports Media Ignore Women? By Tom Hawking

Anyone who follows US sports in more than the most cursory manner probably has an opinion on ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith — and anyone who’s been paying attention will know that he is, as Australian basketballer Andrew Bogut put it rather succinctly, a wanker. PLEASE COME TO TORONTO PLEEEEASE :DDDDD

I would love to, but money! :( This is basically the response to every request of an author ever. For the most part we have to fund our own travel until we reach a certain level of success (as defined by who the hell knows, basically) and then, our travel destinations are determined by the person paying (publisher usually, sometimes the destination venue).

I get questions on almost a daily basis about how people can get one of these 18”x24” posters forThese Broken Stars. They aren’t for sale anywhere and due to the cost of shipping a poster, I cannot give them out as part of my write-to-me-I’ll-write-back offer. I do sometimes send them (at random) to fans I see online being particularly dedicated to telling their friends about the book, or sharing their enthusiasm, but that’s sporadic and… well, random. It’s whenever I have the time (and money...

“I wrote a book. It sucked. I wrote nine more books. They sucked, too. Meanwhile, I read every single thing I could find on publishing and writing, went to conferences, joined professional organizations, hooked up with fellow writers in critique groups, and didn’t give up. Then I wrote one more book.”

meaganspooner:

Years ago, when I first started blogging about writing and my hopes of one day getting published, I ran my first book giveaway to celebrate my birthday. Now, July 5th is the day I set aside to thank you guys for reading my books, for listening to me ramble on Twitter and Tumblr, and for just generally being awesome, book-loving, YA-reading rockstars. You guys are the best birthday present a girl could ask for.

To celebrate I’m giving away ALL of my books, including an early AR...
