To blog or not to blog ...

Okay, so I’m being encouraged to change up the blog a bit and make it more of a regular outpouring of thoughts and ideas. Thing is, I’m not sure ‘out’ is the best place for some of the things that go through my head at times.
Kinks and fetishes aside (*cough), how much of one’s personality should one exude to an online community? Given that certain displays of characteristics are acceptable, or would be if one was cute, funny or a lil quirky (even dry wit and sarcasm can work for those gifted in the arts), where do you draw the line? What about opinions. On real life subjects. On politics, or poverty, or war … freedom of speech, TV shows, movies. What about all that stuff? Does it have a place in the communication between reader and author, and should an author automatically become a blogger?
I toyed with the idea of starting a sister blog for the ‘thoughts’, but then wondered if having a list of blogs is worse than saying the odd thing on one that not everybody wants to read. Followers could, after all, look at the title and decide not to partake of the unfolding morsel of news.
I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts whether a reader, a blogger, and author, or a bit of all of the above. What do you like to hear about from your favourite authors?
And please, please, help me out – twitter – I just don’t get it. I like to think of myself as reasonably computer savvy. Back in the day, I spent some time installing new software packages and introducing new working routines for a major company so I do know my way around a pc and I’ve been surfing the net for more years than I care to admit both socially, academically, and for work. So, why, oh, why, does the concept of twitter elude me?
Maybe it’s the social aspect—I’m not naturally a people person. Are you on twitter, and if so, why does it appeal to you?

The Next Big Thing...

I’m delighted to be part of The Next Big Thing Blog Hop, generously nominated by the amazing Summer Michaels. Summer introduced us to her fabulous short recently released by Less Than Three Press, Substitute Heart, the perfect Winter Warmer for a dull January day.

I’m jazzed to have the opportunity, not only to pimp my upcoming release with LT3 Press, but also to introduce another author as the ‘Next Big Thing’. Read on for details…
1. What is the working title of your book?Finding King (Breaker #1). It’s the first in a trilogy about the crew of the Breaker-One-Niner, a spacecraft currently operating as a pirate vessel.

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

Originally, I wrote the story in answer to an open call for an anthology on pirates. It came out well over the requested word count so I kept working on it until the story that exists today emerged. It’s even longer, fuller, and hopefully smoother than the original story idea it grew from. I remember I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want my pirates in billowy shirts with swords and ponytails, so I hit fast forward and landed somewhere in the 35th century in a different corner of the universe and my little band of space pirates was born. Being set in the future wasn’t enough, I wanted them to blend with a few of the ideas I had for sci-fi and biotech so a new sub-species was born.
3. What is the genre of the book?

Sci-fi. It has a romance element, of course, which takes centre stage for the first book.
4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie
rendition?
The two actors I would choose for Merrick and Jessie are probably a bit old now. It would have been Jude Law and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Rhys Meyers just is Jessie from his build to his pout to the incredibly sexy glower. He has such a unique look he’s hard to replace in my mind with a younger guy (open to suggestions – post a comment below). Jude on the other hand, I would happily replace with Kellen Lutz or Chris Hemsworth. Both would paint a very beautiful Merrick by bringing that rough and ready edge to my pirate captain. As for the rest of the boys...I'll let the readers decide.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Ged Merrick can't believe his luck when he finds his ex in cryo-stasis on board the spaceship he's just commandeered, but can Jessie put the lost years behind them and start over?

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency/publisher?
The book will be released by Less Than Three Press in Mar 2013

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
The first draft took just a few days but it was only 12,000 words. It took another few weeks to bring it to the extended version (20k+) and many more weeks of revisions before I felt I’d done justice to the characters and submitted it.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
I haven’t read much M/M Sci-fi so I couldn’t really say. I haven’t come across anything similar, which is one of the reasons I was nervous about submitting it. Not all publishers are prepared to take a chance on different. I’m so pleased LT3 chose to take it on. I know I’m biased but I think it’s a great story and I’m chuffed to share my boys with the world.

9. Who or what inspired you to write this book?
As I said, it began as a response to an open call. I mulled over the idea of pirates for a few weeks and mentioned in one of the groups I belong to that I was considering submitting something. I’d written some cross over fan-fic that had been well received and Aleks Voinov and Xara X Xanakas encouraged me to give it a go. Scratch that, Xara threatened me with very questionable things if I didn’t go for it. I received an invitation to join one of her writers groups and I approached them with a very loose idea something along the lines of ‘I want to write space pirates’. It is because of the support and encouragement from my writing group that King found its feet and after several transformations will finally make its way in the world. For that, I humbly thank them, and Aleks, who took time out of his busy schedule to beta read for me what seems like a lifetime ago, from the bottom of my heart :D. It’s been a long time coming for this particular story and I’m really excited about its release. To the guys in AWA who helped polish King until it gleamed - love ya loads :)

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It has sexual tension, conflict, action, and best of all - a whole cast of gorgeous guys waiting to be discovered.

To keep this blog hopping, here’s an awesome author I think you should check out:Roger Kean at - Roger Kean

At last...

So, Alec's adventures for Volume 3 are finally complete and the full file download will be available on Goodreads shortly.

For those of you who were quick to pick up Chapter 30 you're probably thinking 'wait, what?', I realised after posting Chapter 30 that a natural pause had occured and the next chapters really move forward into Vol 4 territory so I've reworked and republished Chapter 30 to conclude Vol 3. Sorry for the confusion, I hope it doesn't throw you too much.

In other news, the cover for my LT3 release early 2013, Finding King, is AWESOME! I hope to be able to showcase it soon. Keep an eye out on LT3's new release page for details.

I'm working on making Alec and Dropping a Stitch into file downloads for All Romance eBooks to spread the love and am considering adding a paperback edition of Alec on Lulu - I want them on my shelf, I figured some other soul may want them too ;o)

Alec still won't shut up so although I won't start posting Vol 4 until around March 2013 I will contiune to work on it. At least if its finished before I start posting the chapters will come nice and regularly.

And speaking of Alec, and his world, I have ideas for a few character spin offs. Brad has been very vocal lately and a few scenes in his POV have popped up that branch into new territory. I don't know what it is about these guys but they don't want to let go.

So, I'm wishing you all Happy Holidays. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement over the last year and to those of you who've been waiting for the full downlaod of Alec Vol 3 - happy reading :D

Oh, and....

Casey Cox For all you Alec fans, by request, there is a new discussion thread where you can dish the dirt, throw mud pies, or wave lil flags on sticks for your favourite boys without any interference from me (*cough, well ... I can still read it though right?)

And the World Turns

I can't believe how quickly the last couple of months have flown. Dark nights are drawing in and I'm fighting the temptation to put the heating on. Friends and family find themselves politely accepting the latest batch of crocheted slipper socks whilst calmly reminding me they don't need hats and scarves.

On the writing front things have been slow but chirpy. A natural lull rather than anything untoward blocking the path. Now, things are moving again and I'm working on edits for my 2013 LT3 release. Alec also has a new chapter posted and the final polish is being added to the last instalments of Volume 3.

As always, I hope you enjoy my contributions to the wolrd of naughty words for titillation ;)

Yay for King.

I can finally announce the good news that the first in my new Sci-Fi series, working title Finding King, has been accepted by LT3 Press for publication.
Early days yet but watch this space for release dates and cover news.

It also means the sequel rockets to the top of the working pile.

And there are updates over at Alec's place.
Enjoy :D

New Look ...

I decided to give Alec's page a facelift, a new header to reflect Alec's continued growth. Feel free to love it or hate it. Opinions welcome.
The count down is on to the release of my LiAW paranormal piece. 30th June will see it published over at the M/M Romance group on Goodreads and shortly after I hope to have it available to download from my author page and available on the blog.
Work is underway on the sequel to Be My Boy. No finish date yet. But I'm liking the way it's going.
Wishing you all Jublilee cheer from the rain and gale battered West Country :D

Happy Birthday, Alec!

[image error]  Wahey :D I can't believe my serial read has made it to a year old. It's a surprise, firstly that Alec's story is still flowing, and secondly, that people are reading it - thank you, wonderful people - you make me smile :)
A year. It's flown by as far as real life is concerned and yet I feel as though Alec has been a part of me for much longer. By this time next year, Alec's story will have wrapped up but another serial will take its place. The outlines are just starting to form...
For now, thank you again, for supporting Alec's story and being brave enough to take on my boys :D

Extended version...

I finally posted another chapter of Alec, and as a special thanks for your patience, it's longer than usual.
You'll be pleased to know that I finished and subbed my contribution to LiAW last week which gives me more time to concentrate on finishing up Alec Vol 3 before focusing on Be My Boy Part 2.
After that, I'll be looking at the sequel to King (currently subbed awaiting news) and if nothing new is waving Alec Vol 4 is on the cards. That should take me up to Christmas... oh, lord... Christmas again, already?
