I have written stories and ridden horses–frequently simultaneously–for as long as I can remember. I grew up on Long Island and spent my formative years in the saddle–just imagining. After high school, I traveled to Ness, England and studied at a British Horse Society training school. This was an all-around amazing experience. When I left, I clutched a certification to teach riding in my hot little hand, and I enjoyed instructing riders for many years.

Who am I kidding? We know it is the horses who do the teaching. All we can do is try to remain open to what they have to say.

Now, I share a farm in Missouri with my family, but I have only one horse these days. Remi’s a Trakehner - thoroughbred - quarter horse cross, as easy a keeper and good m

Thank you so much for your kind comments. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-) I do apologize for the length of time between books 1 and 2. Other writing projects have kept me busy. I'm about to announce a new book. It ISN'T the next Horsecaller book but it IS set in Cirq, and Lauren and Leinos make an appearance. This new book should be out in April or early May at the latest. Don't have a release date, yet. But...news will be posted as soon as possible. Again, I thank you for putting your thoughts into words. It is comments/questions like yours that feed the author's soul! Take care and enjoy the ride! Candace(less)

If I'm having trouble writing a particular story, then I take a step back and analyze why that might be. I spent an entire year (2014), a whole YEAR trying to write the sequel to On the Buckle. It was painful, and for a long time, I couldn't figure out why. But I kept at it. (Stubbornness can be such an unattractive trait) I took six different versions of chapter one to my critique group. After a few more chapters, one of my critique partners asked if I was enjoying writing this book. AARRGHH!! It showed. The story wasn't going where it should and the characters...oy! They were so unhappy. They were rebelling.

I finally stopped and took a break and read some books. I hadn't been reading for pleasure. I ended up burning through about twelve books in three weeks. I felt so refreshed after that! And then I started a new project. And that has gone amazingly well.

Every writer has to find their own way through "blocks" or plot difficulties, or whatever. If I were to give advice (not that I think I'm qualified), I would say, first, identify the problem (I did, eventually, figure out what the problem was with that book). Second, try writing something else. Third, just take a break. I don't believe you have to write every day. Sometimes, you have to go do something else to refill the well. For me, it's getting out in nature, visiting my horse, going riding.(less)

You might have noticed that I’ve been quiet around social media for the last several months. Or, maybe you didn’t if you aren’t there all that much yourself! LOL. I realized at the beginning of this year that I needed to take a break from all things AUTHOR. I was several months into this break […]
