Happy Lincoln's Election Day Eve!

Happy day after voting!  I didn't get a sticker after I voted yesterday - just a receipt.  Do most places give you an "I Voted Today" sticker?  Or is that just a Connecticut thing?

Speaking of voting, guess who was elected president on November 6, 1860:

Daniel Boone vs. Davy Crockett - a Scientific Analysis

I've spent the past month in eastern Kentucky at the Jenny Wiley Theatre (more on that coming up in a later post), which means that I have of course been learning all I can about Kentucky history.  While touring around Kentucky and Tennessee investigating log cabins (again, more on that later), I of course encountered two of our nation's most famous frontiersmen - Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.

But although I knew they had like existed and wore a lot of animal skins and racoon hats, I so...

Ballet Inspo on Instagram!

I am definitely no ballerina, but I LOVE ballet style.  Tulle skirts - excellent.  Ballet flats - the greatest shoes of all time.  These super-ballet ballet flats by Chloe you see before you remain my most wanted shoe of all time - sadly, they're a bit out of my price range.  But a girl can dream!

For more ballet style inspo, the geniuses at Glamour magazine have posted a list of five stylish ballerinas to follow on instagram - inject your streetwear with a little studio st...

Farmers Market, Strawberries, and Scones

The Wicker Park Farmer's Market is a very big part of my life. As in a do not miss a single Sunday, had a countdown calendar til it reopened in May part of my life. That is largely due to the fact that there is a crepe stand that makes real buckwheat gallettes that are so delicious they must be consumed weekly, but also because I am a known fruit bat who will eat fruit like it's my job.
(If that is a job, I want it.)
This weekend I picked up my usual blueberries, some peaches, and noticed...

All Maine Points

Hello! I'm back in the great Midwest after a delightful week with my family in Maine. Kennebunkport remains probably my favorite place in the universe, and here, in no particular order, is a list of some of my favorite things about Maine:
1. The Weather That's me in a cable knit sweater. IN JULY.
2. The beach If you put me near a body of water I will swim in it, and yes, the water is cold, but I swim anyway! I also enjoy reading on the beach in long pants, paddle boarding, and best of all,...

Coca Cola Red

I have finally found my perfect summer red.  Some might say red pedicures are for winter, but I say nay to that!  Personally, I prefer to spend my summers dressing like Taylor Swift circa That Time She Dated a Kennedy.
[image error] Actually, Taylor Swift wears a lot of red, white, and blue no matter who she's dating.  She's basically my summer nautical style icon.  And to me, nothing caps off that vintage nautical look like a shiny red pedicure peeking out of your wedges.  And in t...

Stealing San Francisco

Today in 1846 the U.S. took San Francisco.  And yes, they quite literally just took it.

(I'm not even sure this technically counts as military history since there was no real battle but I was interested so here goes.)

The Spanish discovered San Francisco bay in 1769 and established a fort and a mission there a couple years later.  The U.S. government tried to buy it in 1835, but the Spanish were like no thanks.  So instead the U.S. was like k I'll wait a decade no prob, then the...

Beauty Obsession - Benefit's They're Real! Push-up Liner

I have a new obsession. I have long loved the look of a thick black cat eye liner - so 60s chic - but have never been able to achieve it without looking like a sloppy panda. UNTIL NOW.

Benefit has just launched a they're real! push-up liner (perhaps the cousin of the they're real! mascara, which I like, but don't love the way I love this liner), and I am banana balls obsessed with it. If you can use a magic marker, you can use this liner. It's a gel own. You click click up from the bottom, a l...
