Pompomberry House - Best Indie Humour Title of 2012

I'm delighted to announce that Pompomberry House won the Indie Book Bargains 'Best Indie Humour Title of 2012'.

However, I must come clean and admit that I work for Indie Book Bargains. The votes were collected fairly and accurately but, because I'm an admin for the project, readers have been exposed to my books more regularly than the general public have been.

Stu Ayris won the best overall book, with Tollsbury Time Forever, with Steve Robinson, Lexi Revellian, M A Comley and Talli Roland also...

Using the iPad to Write Dialogue - A Tip For Authors

Two things that put my off the Apple iPad were the lack of apostrophe and double quote keys on the main keyboard screen. Yes, you could press to get to a second punctuation keyboard, but what serious author wants to have to click three times to get quote?

This troubled me for ages with me looking into extended keyboard apps and setting up elaborate keyboard short-cuts.

However, I've since found that you can get a quote on the master keyboard. You have to click the key with !, on it and hold it...

How to Make a Troll, Rosen Trevithick Style

Real trolls are not quite like the trolls you read about in books. So read carefully if you would like to make a lifelike troll.

Purchase some modelling clay. Use Fimo if you want your troll the be robust. Or Plasticine if you wish to be able to reposition him.

You will need green, flesh colour, black and white.

Real trolls are not green. Their skin is flesh-coloured with a greenish tinge.

Mix flesh-coloured clay with a small amount of green. Our model came out a little too green. Be careful!

Trol...

Christmas Number 1 - The Candidates

My winter novella, The Ice Marathon is at number 9 in the UK Kindle freebie chart, making it a contender for Christmas number #1. But who else has a potential chart topper this season?

Here's a run down of the candidates, as I see them:

'The Ice Marathon' by Rosen Trevithick

(Me! Me! Me! Download now)

Strengths: 4.8 average, author has previously topped this chart.

Drawbacks: Only 33,000 words, only 8 reviews.

A Christmas psychological thriller centring around an unexpected pregnancy, a hot and col...

2012 - The Year of the Indie

2012 - What a year to be an indie author. Amazon introduced their Select programme, KUF grew into an even wider invaluable resource, and a traditional publisher picked up a dubious indie trilogy making it the fastest-selling paperback of all time. It is also the year that my career took off, along side many other self-published authors.

In exchange for ninety days of Amazon exclusivity, the Kindle self-publishing platform offered eBook authors the chance to give away their books for free. At f...

Free Novella - The Ice Marathon

My winter novella, The Ice Marathon is free from now until Christmas Day. This dark, psychological mystery book will suit anybody who enjoyed Seesaw or The Other Daughter.

When Simon and Emma first meet, they find each other intolerable and are stunned when an angry row turns into sex.

The resultant pregnancy shocks them further. However, only days after giving birth, Emma falls critically ill. With Simon on an Antarctic expedition, Emma entrusts baby Joseph to her 'in-laws'. On her recovery, s...

Beyond the Horizon by Karen Hedges

Karen Hedges, a very talented lady in my writers' group, has just published her children's book, Beyond the Horizon for Kindle.

It's a space adventure. The heroes set off on their first space mission - heading off to the Moon and then the other planets in our Solar System.

Karen feels that many children's stories can stray so far from reality that they can be patronising to the more scientific-minded child. So, she had packed her book with facts and kept the plot as practical as she can, withou...
