Meet Readers Face-to-Face By Writing in a Cafe

Working in a cafe with a sign inviting readers to come and say hello might not be everybody's cup of tea but I find it's a meaningful way of getting in touch with what being an author is all about.

I found myself home alone, day after day, writing books to be sold online to people I would, at most, thank for an online review but would probably never hear from at all. I found myself feeling more like a book machine than a person.

Then, I had an idea. I enjoy working in cafes - the cakes, the cho...

Where to Buy The Troll Trap Paperback

Those of you looking to buy The Troll Trap, look no further than Amazon.

I had the option of making is available through bookshops but the wholesalers fees were so great, that extended distribution would have considerably increased the price to customers and decreased my royalties to mere pennies.

Some site such as eBay and The Book Depository also list the product, but they charge more than Amazon.

The eBook version is currently exclusive to Kindle but plans to increase its distribution are in...

How to Follow Me Without Using Facebook

I'm becoming increasing disenchanted with Facebook, which has started charging me to post news to my fans. Therefore, I urge readers to find new ways to follow my news and interact with me.

Firstly, Facebook started asking me to 'sponsor posts' - essentially asking for money to send news to people who've elected to receive it. This annoyed me, but Facebook has to cover costs, right? The final straw was when they started asking me to pay to send messages to other Facebook users' inboxes.

So, bel...

My Top 10 Words

I thought it would be interesting to find out which words I use the most. Although the top words varied enormously from book to book, one word kept cropping up - eyes. In the five texts I processed, I had used 'eyes' 346 times. The closest word, 'good', was more than 50 occurrences behind.

Eyes are great, the not only help build a picture of a character's physical appearance but they can by used to express a great variety of emotions. I had no idea that I referenced them quite as often as I ha...

How To Create an Author Persona You Can Live With

Authors, whether we use a pen name, airbrush our pictures or try to go 'eau naturalle', we are all guilty of editing the version of ourselves that we show the public. I say 'guilty' but there's really no shame in it. Everybody has many editions of themselves, from the mild mannered parent we show our children to the foul mouthed hooligan we become at a football match. Being an author is no different. It is simply not desirable to tell your readers that you pick your nose and that poor reviews...

How to Find New Releases By Your Favourite Authors

We were recently asked how readers could find out which of their favourite authors have released new books without having to check them all individually. We couldn't think of a way to do it offhand, so we've added that feature to Indie Book Bargains.

Readers

Go to the New Releases section. If you're a member then books by authors you follow will be at the top of the page. You can also subscribe to email notifications whenever one of your favourite authors adds a new release.
