Suspense, Christmas, and even Puppies… Oh, my!
It has been my pleasure over the last couple of years to create, write, and work with Harlequin Intrigue and its team and my agent to bring the suspenseful Mystery Christmas Series to life. The last book in the Publishers Weekly and Walmart Bestselling series, Ms. Demeanor, has just hit store shelves (and its ebook is available for pre-order wherever books are sold).
Mystery Christmas Series on Biteable.
While the series has come to an amazing and twist-filled end, my love for the series will continue. I can’t tell you how fun it was to get to know Wyatt, Waylon, Colter, and Rainier—the four Fitzgerald brothers whose stories fill the pages of Ms. Calculation, Mr. Serious, Mr. Taken and Ms. Demeanor.
Each of these brothers are alpha-heroes, right down to their love of horses, dogs, and family. These brothers are like all brothers—they fight, they have fallings out, and occasionally get hurt, but when push comes to shove family always comes first.
And that, right there, is why I feel it makes it the perfect Christmas series—no matter what happens in their lives (or who is murdered, missing, and/or there is a secret baby) they always find their family will always stand beside them.
As for the heroines of the series, each has a story as incredible as those of the men they come to love. We have Whitney, Christina, Gwen, and Laura Blade—each of these strong, confident and intelligent women has a secret… some in their pasts, some held in the present, and even some that will impact their futures.
Here is one of my favorite reviews for Mr. Taken by Books and Spoons, a 1% Top Reviewer on Goodreads:
“With mystery, threats, humor, and passion the story pulled me in, and I was enthralled until the early morning hours and ‘the end’.
Mr. Taken has a new, different kind of tone to it compared to the previous stories, obviously colored by the hero and heroine’s personalities and sizzling chemistry between them. The sarcastic, yet well-meant banter between them had me chuckling, the fervor of their feelings fanning my face. Colter Fitzgerald and Whitney Barstow have a definite spark between them, and they have much more in common than one would think at the first glance.
Colter has a great sense of humor, he is a caretaker and protector. He is not shy about his attraction and growing feeling towards Whitney, he just wishes he knew if he can truly trust her with her skittish behavior regarding the recent events at the farm. Because it is obvious Whitney is holding secrets that could put all of them in danger.
Whitney ran away from Kentucky to hide from her abusive, stalking ex who tried to kill her. She is secretive and avoiding close relationships with everyone. The lose of her family connection and beloved horses keep her away from the barn and people, yet her whole being is craving for healing and peace of mind.
She does her best to deny her attraction to Colter, yet the repeated moments of jealousy and envy tells another tale.
The story fits well into the ongoing series, and there was a natural flow to it that made it easy to follow and enjoy. The catty behavior between Sarah and Whitney was a surprise, in that hilarious, “I can’t look away oh my goodness what is going on” – way.
The mystery with the attempts to sabotage the farm builds up the suspense and tension. The investigation is churning a lot of feelings, bringing strain and stress to the relationships all around.
A touch of Christmas spirit and sort of a community miracle is witnessed in the attempt to save the farm, as all come together to celebrate the Yule. Little did they know this would give an ample opportunity to anyone wanting to harm the town or the Fitzgeralds.
A delightfully intense story filled with engaging romance and gripping mystery.”
This review, and those like it, are the reason I continue to write. I love when I can impact my readers’ lives in such a wonderful, and positive way. My goal is always to make you laugh, make you cry (with laughter), and help you to escape.
While each story is different and each couple works to solve a mystery at the family’s ranch, they all promise to keep you reading late into the night.
If you get a chance, I would love for you to read and review this series that is near and dear to my heart. I know you will fall just as deeply in love with these stories as I have!
Wishing you a happy holiday season and many great books!

New Release Alert: Mr. Taken (Mystery Christmas Series)
It’s that time again, Mr. Taken has just been released and is taking the world by storm! I can’t tell you how pleased I am with this Harlequin Intrigue series, and how happy I am that it has been so warmly received and loved by fans.
Mr. Taken is the third book in the Mystery Christmas Series, a series that has not only been a Walmart Bestseller but has also hit the Publishers Weekly Bestsellers list! Seriously, I could almost cry with happiness. I couldn’t have accomplished these things without your love and support. Thank you so very much.
A bit about Mr. Taken:
In Mystery, Montana, a white-hot hunk fights fire with passion…
Though he’s ridiculously handsome and notoriously funny, it’s Colter Fitzgerald’s firefighting skills that are most needed by Whitney Barstow—at first. She’s been traumatized by fire and terrified that the arsonist sabotaging Dunrovin Ranch is a madman from her past. She’s also fearful that harm will come to any man she loves, so denies her attraction to Colter. Then why is she jealous of another woman’s hands all over him?
On the eve of the ranch’s Christmas festival, Colter wants no one but Whitney, body, soul and darkest secrets. But there’s still an arsonist to stop…before what makes the season bright is Dunrovin in flames.

New Release: Mr. Serious
The time has arrived…Mr. Serious has hit store shelves!
First, I have to do a special shout out—the mom of the little pumpkin on the cover contacted me and from there we became friends. I normally don’t get to meet my cover models, so it has been a real treat. As a thank you, I sent them a little care package with lots of goodies, and look at what I received as a thank you!
Isn’t she just the cutest!? (So you know, I did receive permission from her proud mama to share!)
I want to say thank you again to them—you made this book truly special!
Mr. Serious is the second book in the Mystery Christmas Series, coming on the heels of Ms. Calculation. I’m excited to let you know that Ms. Calculation hit the Walmart and Neilsen BookScan Bestsellers lists! You read that right! I was so excited. I’m hoping that we can do it again with Mr. Serious.
Here is the blurb:
Duty and danger bring an alpha hero to Mystery, Montana
Waylon Fitzgerald had a life of adventure all planned out—one that did not include returning to his family’s ranch to bring his missing ex-wife into custody for murder. With so much bad blood between them, the sexy military police officer understands why his ex’s sister, Christina Bell, hates him. And yet he and Christina spark a sizzling attraction.
What changes everything for Waylon is Winnie, Christina’s adorable ward…and the startling revelation that he’s her father. When she goes missing—her mother a killer at large—Waylon’s world is upended. Will he redeploy to follow his passions around the world…or stay where his heart has found an unexpected Christmas present?
Mr. Serious was hailed by Books and Spoons as an “Ardent yet sweet love story on the side of tension riddled family secrets, murders, kidnappings, and burglaries moves the plot forward with a rapid space while the tension escalates, and loyalties are tested. A fascinating small-town crime spree that takes unexpected turns and leaves the reader anticipating for more to come in the series.”
Now, you may be wondering what you can do to help spread the word about the release and the Mystery Christmas Series. If you are, thank you! I can always use an extra hand. If you are interested in helping me, please feel free to share the image of the excerpt and/or links for the book.
Also, once you read the book, please take a moment to leave a review—Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Goodreads are great places! These reviews are not only read by me, but also by others looking for great titles, and my editors and agents. They make a HUGE difference.
I also want to let you know that my dear friend and double RITA nominee Cecy Robson also has some exciting news!
In advance of the release of her next book Of Flame and Fate (to be released September 26th), her book Of Flame and Light (Weird Girls #7, Flame #1) is on sale. This awesome sale ends September 20th, so act fast!

On August 19, 2017 we gave away a trip to Missoula, Montana to celebrate the series, the city, and the ranch! Keep your eyes peeled, because I have it on good authority (AKA Barb Neilan of Destination Missoula) that because this event was such a success, we may be doing an event again like this in the future! And I want to extend a huge congrats to the winner, Liz Digman, from Texas!! Can’t wait to meet you!
Needless to say, a ton of research and time went into writing and publishing these books. A huge shout out to the team at Harlequin Intrigue for taking my ideas and helping me make them into the best novels they could be! I can’t wait for readers to have the chance to experience the magic and majesty of the ranch, the characters, and the stories that fill the pages of the four books in this series!

New Release: Ms. Calculation and Special Guest Debra Webb!
I’m excited to let you know that there is a new release on the horizon–Ms. Calculation, Book one of the Mystery Christmas Series!
This year has gone by entirely too fast. If you’re like me, you are meeting the end of summer with equal parts relief and sadness—kids are heading back to school and now comes the days in which work can be done.
Here in Montana, our air is filled with smoke and our ability to get out of the house is sporadic at best, which means that in some ways we are already beginning to feel a bit housebound—but I’m not complaining. For me, that means more time to write, to play Legos with my kiddos, and read the books teetering off the top of my TBR stack (here’s looking at you, Angi Morgan and Debra Webb).
Last week, in an effort to get out of the smoke, I headed to Green Bay for the Writers Police Academy along with my friends and fellow Harlequin Intrigue authors: Angi Morgan, Rita Herron, Jenna Kernan, and Debra Webb. We had so much fun! (Needless to say, we brought the BOOM to SWAT training!) I’m sure you will be reading some of the fun ideas this conference inspired in my upcoming titles![image error]
This month also marks the paperback release of Ms. Calculation (the paperback will start appearing at your local stores on August 22 and the e-book will be hitting digital shelves on September 1, 2017)!
This is the first book in the four-book Mystery Christmas Series.
Here is an excerpt from Ms. Calculation for your enjoyment:
You can get your copies here: Harlequin | Amazon | B&N | iTunes | Kobo | Google Play | Walmart | Goodreads
In addition to my release, Debra Webb and I are working together to get the word out about our books. I LOVE Debra’s works.[image error]
Here is her excerpt for her new release, The Coldest Fear:
A killer with nothing left to lose…
Detective Bobbie Gentry has a monster to confront. The pain of losing her family and nearly her life to a criminal’s vile hunger is still fresh, but now the landscape is different. Now she’s not alone. Now she has Nick Shade to trust. Nick treats the terror of his past with vengeance. He’s dedicated his life to hunting serial killers, and he’d give his last breath to save Bobbie. When a string of killings bloodies Savannah’s elite society and causes cold cases to resurface, Bobbie is captured in a city more haunted than Nick’s inescapable nightmares. And as the murderer strikes close, Nick and Bobbie will need to become even closer if they’re going to survive.
You can get your copy of The Coldest Fear here: Amazon | B&N | iBooks | KOBO | IndieBound | Walmart | Target
What are you going to be doing this fall? Big plans? Kids going back to school? I would love to hear what you are up to!
And if you get the chance, after you read the book, DON’T FORGET TO LEAVE THOSE REVIEWS ON AMAZON AND BARNES & NOBLE. These reviews are an important part of our job—we read them, as do our publishers.
As always, thank you for loving my books! I write for you.

Check Out the New Releases and Win a Trip of a Lifetime!
This has been one heck of a year, one with tons of new releases coming and soon the chance to win a trip of a lifetime!
Hang in [image error]there, because this blog is full of super exciting news and events! First things first, Always a Wanderer will be on store shelves June 27th.
Always a Wanderer is the second book in the Irish Traveller Series and is being hailed by NYT and USA Today Bestselling author Sabrina York as “… a powerful, inspiring tale that proves not all who wander are lost.”
I’m also working on my romantic suspense novels for Harlequin’s Intrigue line and loving it. I have a new four-book series which will start to appear on bookshelves throughout the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, and the Netherlands (and digitally worldwide) this August.
The first book in this series is Ms. Calculation. T[image error]he entire series is set in the fictional town of Mystery, Montana and so these books became the Mystery Christmas Series. Oh yeah, I love Christmas!
This series came about in an almost magical way when a fan approached me at an event and began telling me about their ranch. Fast forward a few months later and this fan, Suzanne Miller the owner and operator of the Dunrovin Guest Ranch, became a great friend. Soon after, the Mystery Christmas Series was born and picked up by Harlequin Intrigue (thanks to Kayla King and Denise Zaza—my wonderful editors).
About the Mystery Christmas Series:
This Christmas, four brothers join together when trouble finds its way to their family’s ranch in the small town of Mystery, Montana. When those they care about turn up dead, a helpless child is kidnapped, their home comes under fire, and the family’s way of life is threatened; the brothers risk everything and put their hearts on the line to keep the people they love safe.
About Ms. Calculation (Book 1):
Welcome to Mystery, Montana, a small town with dark secrets…
The body found in the Dunrovin Ranch stables isn’t just a crisis for Wyatt Fitzgerald’s family or his top priority as sheriff—Gwen Johansen is both the victim’s sister…and Wyatt’s ex. And in a small town like Mystery, events of the past don’t seem to fade. Maybe she’d misjudged his potential when they were younger, but now he could be her greatest ally—and not just in the investigation. That is, if he can work his way around a broken heart. With the killer circling, the clock is counting down on more than Christmas, a time when family means everything and forgiveness is the best gift of all.
About Mr. Serious (Book 2):[image error]

Top 5 Life Lessons: From the Lives of the Characters of the Irish Traveller Series
[image error]I sigh as I sit down to blog. Everyone who knows me well, knows that I think working with my website isn’t nearly as fun as working on a book (like those of the Irish Traveller Series). Yet, I want to reach out to everyone and catch up.
These days, I have been spending a large amount of my time editing, plotting, and actually spending a wee bit of time with my family and friends. Over the last eighteen months, I have put thousands of hours into ten different projects. I’m finally coming to the end of my manic writing schedule. Next up is the release of Always a Wanderer, Book 2 of the Irish Traveller Series.
In these many hours, I have ended up putting my characters through some crazy scenarios and they (and I have) learned some critical lessons; none more so than Helena O’Driscoll and Graham Kelly, the hero and heroine of Always a Wanderer and Once a Gypsy
I thought it was high time that I shared their whoppers and I hope that these hard-learned lessons can help you as much as they helped Helena and Graham. Here goes:
Learn to say “No.”
This seems obvious, but often as women we are taught to please others or to make sure that everyone around us is comfortable and happy.
Screw that.
It’s okay to put yourself first. You need to be happy, the rest will follow.
Yeah, I said a bad-ish word on my blog. Which leads to my second learning lesson:
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. [image error]
Not everyone is going to like you. Which kind of stems off of lesson one, but this is slightly different. Even if you try and please people, there will be some who hate your guts and would wish for you to eat worms.
I’ve had to really come to terms with this one. I want people to like me. I still want to make everyone around me happy. I’m a huge jokester… but I won’t win everyone over. AND THAT’S OKAY.
If someone doesn’t like something you have written, said, done, or joked about, then the problem is a larger statement on that person than it is on you.
Stemming from this, you can find tremendous empowerment in the ability to…
Let s*** go.
(Not gonna lie, almost cussing is kinda fun. I guess I’m really enjoying this whole Don’t be afraid to be yourself thing.)
We all have moments in our lives that are rough. Some are worse than others, but with time we must learn and push ourselves to walk away from things that aren’t helping us. Maybe you have a toxic friendship, a job that is making you miserable, or you made a mistake. Regardless of your battle, forgive, forget and move on.
There is great power in forgiving the unforgiveable, but the greatest power it gives is to you. If you forgive those who have wronged you, or have made mistakes that concern you, if you give forgiveness, you will free yourself. It’s amazing.
Lastly, but probably the most important lesson Helena and Graham have learned is:
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
This is just as important in life as it has been in my writing. I have had to get many hands on deck. I’ve enlisted friends, family members, and fans to help—and I couldn’t be more thankful.
This lesson has varying levels, and that’s perfectly normal. Sometimes we just need an hour without kids. Ask for help. Sometimes you need helping lifting or cleaning or exercising or whatever. Ask for help. Sometimes things are much darker and emotionally draining, you’ve lost a friend, a relationship, a parent, a spouse… Whatever it is. Ask for help.
You will be shocked at the outpouring of support you will receive if you just reach out. People are incredible, if you allow them to be.
I could keep going about what my characters have learned, but those lessons are by far the most important.
Over the last year, what lessons have you walked away with? I’d love to hear. J
While many of you are on my newsletter/street team (if you are not, you can sign up for the Street Team or the Newsletter by clicking on your choice location), I know that I have missed some who would love to be included. I hope to see you there.
Also, I have some cool stuff coming up in the coming weeks. (Anyone want to win a trip to an all-expense paid trip to a guest ranch in Montana?) And again, Always a Wanderer will be hitting shelves on June 27, 2017! So stay tuned!

New Release: Wild Montana
I’m so thrilled to let you know that today Wild Montana has hit store shelves! The e-book will be released on February 1, but you can pre-order and it will automatically upload to your device upon release!
Here’s the blurb for Wild Montana:[image error]
Have a former FBI agent and a park ranger met their match in the wilds of Montana?
With a mysterious death to solve in Glacier National Park, Customs and Border Patrol agent Casper Lawrence must come up with motive, means, opportunity—and a killer. If he doesn’t crack this case by the book, the former FBI agent on strike two will be out. Teamed with a beautiful park ranger, the cowboy agent with the gritty past has to trust sexy lone wolf Alexis Finch. But as their investigation takes them through dangerous terrain and an outlaw motorcycle club’s turf, Casper will do anything to keep Alexis—and what they’ve ignited—alive.
And a little excerpt!
Wild Montana
Chapter One
Alexis Finch forced her body up the steep trail and toward the location the hikers had described. Ravens swooped through the air above her, calling out secrets to their comrades as they flew west. Even though she hiked nearly every day through the backcountry of Glacier National Park, each step was torturous. The altitude made her breath come faster, but she focused her attention on the thick pines that surrounded them, and she ignored the pain that shot up from her tired calves.
“Ranger Finch,” the Customs and Border Protection agent called from behind her.
She was thankful as she stopped and turned back, taking the moment to catch her breath and shift the straps of her backpack, as they had started to cut into her shoulders. “Hmm?”
Casper Lawrence stopped beside her, his cheeks pink and a sheen of sweat covering his tanned face. She found comfort in the fact that after more than three miles of this uphill battle, the handsome agent was hurting just as badly as she was. “According to the GPS, this should be the spot.” He motioned around them.
The hillside was covered with thick, frost-bitten grasses, timber and patches of snow that hid in the shadows. No evidence of a struggle. No blood. No fresh tracks.
“Look,” she said, pointing toward the ravens overhead. “No matter what the GPS says, we follow the birds. Listen to nature. It’ll give us all the information we need.” She cringed as she realized how much she sounded like a bumper sticker, but as she spoke the words she knew they were true, especially when it came to finding a body.
If she’d learned anything in working as a law enforcement park ranger in the park for the last five years, it was that the only thing she could trust was Mother Nature’s fickle attitude. She did as she pleased, and danger could be found in the moments that a person underestimated her power. It was easy to identify the people who had misjudged her; they were usually the ones Alexis and the other rangers were sent into the backcountry to find—or the ones whose bodies they were sent in to recover…
I hope you love the book as much as I do!
