Tony Winters and the Idea of Sports as a Learning Tool.

Why did I suddenly write a whole trilogy about a kid that is trying to get his life together?

Why did I use fight sports as a mechanism to help him grow and learn lessons about life?

Mainly because I wanted to present a book where the main character faces hardships, real things that are hard to overcome, while being a good person who uses hard work and consistency to triumph over all obstacles. As well as showing the power of being basically good.

That was the main point.

So don't worry, I'm not going to dedicate my life to writing about sports or anything. It was mainly about investigating a new area. Both in topic and theme. This is a story about a person that, no matter what happens, manages to pull out a win. So, it's a bit different that way.

I hope that everyone will give it a chance, think about the themes and if they like/dislike it will bother to discuss some of the ideas on the forum.

Should I even bother writing anything else?

It's getting to the point where it's hard to tell. Is my writing that mechanical seeming? Are question marks being used to mark questions inside quotes passe?

It's a lot of work to see people just talking badly about my efforts all the time. Is it really worth it?

I'm not sure anymore.

Depression: Boom!

I woke up this morning and was hit by... Waves of darkness. Coming from within. That is really odd given the time of the year.

I'm trying to keep working through it, but this is not a great sign.

Hopefully I shake it soon. (That has happened a few times in my life. A situational thing or whatever? Probably not real depression, given that, but it feels about the same.)

I'll keep people updated, if anyone cares.

Because we all need some hope. Even if it's the total lack of all hope.

Fasting again...

The goal is to fast to completion, which means going to the point where it isn't needed any longer.

That will be a while. Last time it affected my writing speed a lot, but it has to be done. I'll try to update people on the whole thing about once a week?

Worse comes to worse, I can put out the first two Tony Winters books. (Already written, after all.) I should be able to do Scales as well, if slowly.

This time, I'm doing a lot of meditation at the same time. So far that's working well. (Um, I'm twelve whole hours in. This is mainly just to give everyone a heads up that I'm going to be doing strange things again!)

On the good side, I might start my new campaign to help out Cthulu for President 2016!

Coming Economic Collapse

Venezuela.

Yes, it's a different country, but there is a lesson in what is going on there right now for the rest of the world. We're seeing the current metrics sink to all-time lows in the U.S. supposed recovery from the 2008 recession. Unemployment is at an all time high. (Though hidden, as the masses drop off the lists of the unemployed, being renamed "discouraged workers". A term meant to hide that fact that these are all human beings that cannot find work, no matter what they do.

Business is sluggish overall. There isn't a lot to say about that.

Things are so bad, the Fed is kicking around the idea of negative interest rates. In case that sounds good to you, it's basically a tax on your savings accounts. Anything that draws interest will suddenly have a charge on it if that happens. Even better, to prevent bank runs, my best guess is that the funds will be locked into place in several protracted "bank holidays" (Which also sounds like so much fun! It's almost as if someone thinks we'll be tricked by giving things friendly sounding names...)

We also have several countries, China, Russia and a few others, who are tied to the dollar, who are being threatened by the U.S. government right now. If they try to devalue their money right now, it could start a war. Why? Because being tied to our currency means that it would make the dollar stronger...

Making it harder for big companies to sap funds from the poorest around the world.

*Insane? Possibly... Happening? Yes.

So, what does this have to do with the wonderful (what? It could be...) country of Venezuela.

Right now, today, people in their larger cities are fighting each other over potatoes and powdered milk they looted from government stores. They have actual food riots going on, as hungry souls stand around, begging, demanding and chanting for food. Just enough to get through the day.

I can hear you now, being smart, like you all are. "But Dale... Those people were in a socialist country, where the government badly mismanaged, maybe even stole all their money! Our country isn't like that!"

True. We're in great amounts of debt though, as a country. The economy might not go down, but it's staggering right now. Things at least look bad.

So, my guess is that everything possible will be done to keep things together until after the new year. That way the problems can be dumped on whoever enherits the mess, instead of Obama. (I'll cover my take on that fiasco in the making. "The Donald" Trump VS Hillary "For Prison" Clinton. It's frankly the most insane Presidential election in modern history coming up. Two super villains arguing about how they're going to destroy us all.)

What is my point here?

Get ready. Just in case. Get a garden in now, if at all possible. Even if it's just some small pots in a window! Build up your food stocks if you can. Make some kind of plan to have a place you can go outside of the city.

In Venezuela, the people in the cities are in great danger. Starving. Their power rationed.
The people in the countryside can find food, growing it for themselves. Hunting wildlife instead of eating their pet dogs and cats.

I can't tell anyone what will happen. Hopefully nothing at all. That's the best case, and the signals aren't pointing that way right now. It really looks like being able to provide your own food is a great idea right now!

For people in Europe or Australia (Or the rest of the world... Hello Brazil!) don't think that the U.S. goes down alone. The problems are almost everywhere. When the big guys go down, everyone is going to sink. Make preparations if you can. I am.

It might not be needed, or may not be enough... But growing a garden plot or putting some flour in a bin aren't the worst things to do in the world.

The Wonderful World of... Something New!

That's right, I'm about to get to more editing on Ripped Open. (So don't worry. It's still coming, hopefully on/near the first of May!)

In the meantime, I started working on something different.

"The Art of Being Tony"

Anthony Winters is, at heart a good kid, that's coming from a pretty bad situation. He's never met (or heard of) his father, and his mother just basically abandoned him with her older brother. Rick. A man that Anthony has barely even heard about. True, that was so she could go off and live her suddenly occurring dream job of being a virtual slave to a cruise line, but it was kind of creepy.

Once in the new place, with no other options, Anthony knows that he has one chance to make this work. He either grabs on with both hands and makes sure that these people don't get rid of him, or he ends up on the streets, fighting for scraps.

Either way, he's in luck, because his Uncle owns a fairly successful Fight gym that specialized in Boxing and MMA. Now all Anthony has to do is become Tony. A hard as nails fighter, that can stand up to anything life can throw at him.

Luckily, he doesn't have to do it alone. If he can realize that before it's too late.

*Yes, it's young adult, and won't be that long. 50-60 thousand words or so. (So like one of the Dead End Series or original Keeley Thomson books.)

On the great side, I'm already a quarter of the way done with it, and it isn't horrible so far. (As to my best ability to tell with my own work.)

It's about a boy coming of age, and doing it right, instead of leaping into every mistake possible first. Which doesn't mean there are consequences to the actions he picks.

After that's done, in a few days, I think I'm going to pick something from the current series' to work on. Something interesting...

How much of our tax dollars go to fight the time wars?

The secret time wars.

Oh, true, I don't know that it's a time war. Not really. It could be Aliens or the secret Demon Wars. Who knows? It's got to be something, however, since there isn't a real reason to spend half of the annual budget on fighting Isis. (Unless, you know, we're talking the ancient goddess. In that case, it might cost that much...)

What I'm getting at is that I just paid my taxes, and... Oh, my. It's a lot! I know the funds aren't going into roads, or twinkies for tots... So it must be something far more interesting! Secrets always are.

So, NSA (We know that you're listening. For SOME reason.) what's the sitch? Time Wars? Hmmm? Hmm? Aliens? Something better?

Please let us know! Because there has to be a real reason for all of what's going on. There just HAS to be!

Thank you.

Insights on random things: Part one

*The media seems to be well informed and dutiful to their data collection tasks. Unless I actually know something about the subject they are covering. Then the holes and glaring bias is easy to see...

*You really can tell who has power in a group or society based on who you aren't allowed to criticise. This becomes especially apparent when that "criticism" is actually just opinion.

*There seems to be a modern issue where people feel that criticising a work (using opinion) is the creative equal to making something new. Where people are seeking validation in their lives, by being as hard as possible on not just anything they see or hear, but everything. Always...

*At the same time, people will stick with established techniques and tricks, merely because they are tradition, without understanding that at times, though not always, doing so means passing by something better.

*Finally, we all have blind spots. Places where it is nearly impossible to see our own weaknesses. The big problem with this is that people on both sides of an issue will insist they are correct, and even fight over it, when the real answer might be something that neither side is willing to admit at all.

Luckily, there was a nearby rabbit to rescue us.

Book three of the Discipline series, Persist, will be out near the beginning of March. (The current plan is for the second.)

It has nothing to do with rabbits, but what better to use as clickbait than small, fuzzy, lagomorphs?

Now that I have you intrigued, with my clever bunny misdirect, allow me to redirect your attention to what's coming next.

The Young Ancients, second cycle, book three should be done before the end of this month. Then... Everything else in the world!

I have an idea for a new book/series, which will be about a woman who lives in a supernatural world, but who has no powers, except for her wits and a few well placed friends. So naturally she becomes a "fixer". When governments or highly powered individuals run into things that they aren't prepared for, they call on her.

Ms. York.

I'm still fleshing that one out, of course.

The problem as always is that there are a million stories to be written and time for only a few each month. (Okay, one a month, really. More than that is just showing off. Which, obviously, IS really cool and worthy of notice, but...)

Now, this is the year where I try to figure out how to get movies and television programs made from my work. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to let me know? Thanks!

Dale Power
