Liza grew up in Australia, where she worked as a general nurse and midwife for fifteen years.
When she met her French husband on a Bangkok bus, she moved to France, where she has been living with her family for twenty years. She works part-time as a French-English medical translator, and as a novelist.
Since completing a creative writing course ten years ago, several of her short stories have won awards, notably the Writers Bureau annual competition of 2004 and her stories have been published widely in anthologies and small press magazines. Her articles on French culture and tradition have been published in international magazines such as France Magazine, France Today and The Good Life France.

Yes in fact it was quite difficult to find (solid) medical information about herbs and plants used during childbirth mainly because most people couldn't read or write back then. So not many records were kept, especially concerning childbirth, from which men (the main writers) were banned. However, I did come across a few texts which were helpful, such as The Trotula and Nicholas Culpeper's "Complete Herbal". Also, the medicinal herbs and plants haven't really changed that much from ancient times, even to our modern times. Midwives were sometimes viewed as witches, but the real witch hunts didn't come until after the time period of my book. However, they were also revered... looked upon with a mixture of fear, suspicion and respect. I hope that's answered your question and thanks for your interest! Cheers, Liza. You are very welcome, Sharon! Thanks for accepting. I was born in Tasmania too! But in Burnie, and 10 years before you. We didn't stay long though, and moved up and down the east coast most of my childhood. I've now been living in France for 20 years and really miss my beloved Oz! I see you write a lovely book review blog... if at some time you'd like to review any of my books, I'd appreciate it, and happy to send whatever format you prefer. Basically, it's a France-based historical trilogy, but the books can all be read as standalones, and in any order. They all deal with the same family, farmhouse and village, but over wide generations and against the backdrops of the the Black Plague, the French Revolution, and the WW2 Nazi occupation of the village. Please let me know if you are interested. Looking forward to chatting about books with you here on GR! Cheers, Liza
