Hester Young has lived in Boston, London, Tucson, Honolulu, and central New Jersey. A mother of two, she was a teacher for ten years before becoming a full-time writer. Her first novel, THE GATES OF EVANGELINE, was inspired by a family tragedy and a mysterious dream. Its sequel, THE SHIMMERING ROAD, will be released in February 2017.

Evangeline is such an uncommon name...I know, my first name is Evangeline and most people tell me they've never heard it before. The only other Evangeline, I know of, is Evangeline Lily, the actress. How are you acquainted with this first name?

The poem chronicles the tragic separation of Evangeline from her lover Gabriel and her attempts to find him. In my book, Evangeline is a lavish Louisiana estate that little Gabriel Deveau disappeared from thirty years prior; the novel, like the poem, revolves around the protagonist’s attempts to discover what happened to the missing Gabriel. It’s a beautiful and unusual name—you’re lucky to have it! (less)
