Audible version of Ribbon of Years
[image error]I’m excited. Ribbon of Years, first published in 2001, is now available on Audible (it will be available soon on iTunes). I love this novel so much, and I’m delighted there is one more way for readers to enjoy it.
In celebration, I have ten copies to give away to my blog readers and followers on my Facebook page. In order to win, you must have an Audible account. You will be given a special code supplied to me by Audible, and you can only make use of it if you are an Audible user.

My Daily Essential Oils Routine
[image error]
I’ve had people ask me about my usage of essential oils, and I decided to answer them in a blog post.
My favorite methods of use are applying to the bottoms of my feet (a way for the oils to rapidly enter your blood stream) and diffusing into the air.
When I go into my office in the morning, I start my diffuser going. I tend to stick with wintergreen with the occasional addition of peppermint and/or spearmint. These scents invigorate me, and the properties of wintergreen essential oil help...

God Loves to Encourage
[image error]
Sometimes being a novelist can be discouraging. Mediocre sales. A harsh review. Unkind email from a reader. Rejection by a publisher. Losing an agent. Feeling like you’ve run out of ideas. I’m sure the list could go on and on, as varied in number as there are authors.
But God is an encourager, and He often sends encouragement when and where we least expect it.
A couple of weeks after Poppet died, my heart still so tender and my tears still so plentiful, I looked out my back window and saw a...

Beginning A New Story
[image error]
I have been circling around a new series idea for a number of months, and in May it started to gel enough that I could talk to my agent about it.
Whenever I begin work on a new book, I think of the Beatrix Potter quote:
There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they’ll take you.
I believe that quote must be true for every author, at least to some degree, but it’s especially true for seat-of-the-pants writers like me. It takes me quite...

Review: The Breathe Bible Audio New Testament
[image error]
In late April, I received the CDs of the Breathe Bible Audio New Testament from Tyndale House Publishing for the purposes of an honest review. It came with the ability to download/listen in a Bible app on my iPhone as well.
Let me begin with the app. I confess that, as an avid audiobook listener, I would rather be able to listen to this New Testament in my Audible app. I wish I could be given a key so that I could download it there, the same way when I buy a movie on DVD, I often can downloa...

Tribute to A Dog’sLife
I’ve been absent from my blog for almost two months. Some of those weeks were because I was working to meet a deadline while at the same time studying hard for my college math finals (hey, I got an A in math and turned in the book on time!). But some of those weeks, as friends on Facebook know already, were because I was grieving the loss of our precious dog, Poppet.
I have mourned the loss of many...

Keeper of the Stars is a 2017 RITA® Award Finalist
[image error]Tuesday, March 21, was supposed to be just an ordinary writing/revising day for me. I was seated at my desk, coffee mug near at hand and my document open on the computer, when my phone rang. It was 8:26 AM. I don’t get calls very often that early in the day. Caller ID told me the caller’s location but not the caller’s name. I considered not answering. It so often is just a sales call.
But I did answer.
Knock me off my chair. It was an RWA board member, calling to let me know that Keeper of th...

Fact and Fiction, Part 2
[image error]
Continuing with the revisit of my Fact and Fiction story (see Part 1 here)…
Life HappenedI had what I would call a normal, happy childhood, even though my dad died when I was a baby. My brother and I were raised by my mom and grandmother, and we had a close-knit and loving extended family. I have fond memories of holiday gatherings when we would play games like “Spoon” around a large dining room table at my aunt’s house.

I was a B student, for the most part. I studied hard at...
