LV’s Monday Meanderings… April 1, 2019!
Happy Monday Meanderers! This week’s Monday Meanderings as always, comes with great books for you to discover! I’ve created this regular newsletter since beginning my newest day job to keep me engaged with you on a regular basis. Lots of exciting things are happening for the L.V. Lewis Brand. This month, my Rocking the Pop Star series is being re-launched as The Rock Legend Series. The first book, European Tour is now titled “Savage.” It will release early in April around April 8th, which just happens to be my birthday. So Yay, Me!
The other exciting thing happening is, books two and three of The Rock Legend Series is being drafted as I write this. Nanowrimo camp in April is providing the impetus for me to get this third book in the Rock Star Legend Series completed. Wish me luck. It has occurred to me that I work with hard deadlines better than soft ones, so I believe this camp situation will produce a stellar product for readers of Rock Star Romance. And oh yeah, the final two books in the series will be titled “Redemption” and “Revival.” So, get your music romance novel loving selves ready for a story that Bohemian Rhapsody fans will simply adore!
The final exiting thing happening this month (all in my birth month) is Jungle Fever Duology is going away. It was time. The Jungle Fever Series has been long overdue some refreshing, and as many of you know, I have already replaced the covers of all the single books. Eventually, there will be more, but right now, the duet had to die its natural death. LOL
So, send me all the positive vibes you can for my writing this month. I’m going to need them.

It was determined from the biopsy that I have contact dermatitits, so I think I’ve figured out what is causing my breakouts and I’m eliminating that thing from touching my skin. Yay!
This week, I’m continuing to work on my revamp of the European Tour Series, which is getting new series and book names. I’m working with a marketer to re-launch and re-release these Rock Star Romances. This weekend I was inflicted with the flu. Can’t a girl get a break? If you’ve been following my blog, then you know I’ve had sickness after sickness and now I’m just so done with not being well.
Despite everything, I have all this writing I need to do and deadlines I want to be able to meet, but I am not a super hero. I had to come to this realization as it relates to my day job and my side hustle. I can only do so much, until my body collapses.
So, this week, I’m going to try to take it easy and allow my body to heal. I’ve got my meds and my fluids and trying very hard not to become dehydrated, so wish me luck you guys. I’m going to need it.

For the past six weeks I’ve been dealing with skin irritation. If you have eczema or one of those common skin conditions, then you know exactly what I’ve been up against. My primary care physician wasn’t able to help me this time, so I’ve been referred to a dermatologist who told me this morning that I would need to have another outbreak for them to “culture” the problem to determine what it is so they can help me. This is unfortunate because now I have to go through this dreaded irritation for the 5th time in order for them to give me some permanent relief.
This seems very counterintuitive, because it means I’m going to have to let myself be sick again in order for them to try to heal me. I wish medicine was more an exact science in this case than a “let’s troubleshoot this and see what we’ve got in our arsenal to cure what ails you.”
Despite my misery, I’m still going to write a good portion of this we. What are you doing this third week of February?

Last week I had an epiphany regarding my Jungle Fever Series. While listening to the first fifteen minutes of The Venture Capitalist audiobook, which is now in production at ACX, I was moved by how much the White family suffered when Tristan and Nathan’s mother was battling ovarian cancer. It remeinded me of how much my mother-in-law suffered with colon cancer in her final days, and I ended up with an idea on how to proceed with Tristan’s POV and Nathan’s stories. So, here’s hoping my mojo will cooperate while I’m fleshing these bad boys out.
Also during this very same week, I had several fans of the books write me to inquire about the stories, so I know there’s still interest there, and that just made me feel so good. It’s been a long while since I’ve felt this good about continuing this series. Although I love writing with the white hot passion of a thousand suns, my mojo is as finicky as hell, and I’m thankful that my readers who love me have understood and stood by me. I’m looking forward to bringing you some stellar product this year! Includiing a new standalone featuring a businessman, his super intelligent and beautiful assistant, and a dog.
Today, I’m working ten hours, but I will go home and write at least four hours. What are you doing today?

I believe I shared with you earlier this month how I’ve decided to do the Keto Diet. It’s still going extremely well, despite my earlier misgivings that I wouldn’t be able to satisfy my desire for those forbidden foods. Well, let me just say I’ve discovered Keto Desserts, and just this weekend my daughter and I made the spectacular one pictured above. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I’m able to enjoy one of my most favorite desserts of all time on this diet: Cheesecake!
Of course, this is a mini version, and it’s made without granulated sugar, but oh is this a delicious alternative to the original! To be honest, I could eat this version even when I’m not doing Keto and enjoy it. Rather than graham crackers, the crust is made of almond meal, butter, and Swerve (and if you want to be fancy, you can add cinnamon). The filling is of course, cream cheese, egg, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and Swerve sweetener. Yummy!

Mini Keto Cheescakes*
Ingredients
Crust
1/2 cup almond meal
2 tbsp butter
Cheesecake
8 oz. cream cheese
1 large egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 pinch salt
1/4 cup Swerve or So Nourished erythritol
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. To make the crust, melt some butter until liquid and mix in your almond meal until you have some that feels like crumbly play dough.
Take about a teaspoon at a time and press the dough into the bottom of a muffin tin. Tip: line your pan with cupcake liners for easy removal! Cheesecake is very soft and if hard to scoop out without causing damage! Bake these crusts for about 5 minutes. They’ll come out slightly brown and crispy.
Then take your room temperature cream cheese and beat it with an electric hand mixer or standing mixer until creamy. Then add vanilla extract, lemon, an egg and your sugar substitute, erythritol in our case. Beat until all combined.
Use an ice cream scooper to fill all the crust-bottomed muffin tin cups evenly almost to the top (the mini cheesecakes will rise while in the oven but will flatten while refrigerating). You can also line each cup with a cupcake liner to make removing the mini cheesecakes easier.
Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes. The mini cheesecakes should be slightly jiggly. Let them cool in the refrigerator for ideally 24 hours. But if you’re strapped for time, try putting them in the freezer for as long as you can.
Once the mini cheesecakes are done cooling, slide a knife around the edges of each muffin cup to loosen them up. Then use a fork and your hands to help them out cleanly. As a delicious bonus, slice up some strawberries and arrange them however you like on top of the mini cheesecakes.
We arranged ours in a flower pattern and added a dot of coconut butter in the middle to finish them off.

As I dropped my husband off at work this morning, one of the local radio stations was playing Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech in its entirety. I sat in my car long after having reached my destination listening, because those words wouldn’t allow me to leave them unheard. Dr. King’s words have always given me chills and they did so, yet again, this morning. His words have elicited awe, inspiration and hope for many for more than seventy years.
And considering where our nation is today, I pondered whether his sacrifice had been in vain and my answer quickly became a resounding NO! We may have strayed from his vision somewhat, but I still believe that we will see that day he espoused so many years ago…that our children will judge others not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. As human beings we all have more commonalities than not, so I truly believe we will eventually get there. Peace!

Marketing has always been difficult for me. In the beginning I was naive enough to believe that when I posted my book on Amazon, it would miraculously sell on it’s own. That has not been the case. I have had to stop just short of selling my first born to get eyes onto my books, just as most indie writers have done. Amazon owns the algorithm that decides whose books will see the light of day, so in order for indies like myself, who don’t have massive marketing budgets, to get eyes to see their books, we have to buy advertising in numerous ways. This includes buying Facebook Ads, AMS Ads, Bookbub Ads, trying to get on the various books lists, like Bookbub, Free Booksy/Bargain Booksy, Robin Reads, etc.
Marketing for ebooks is very competitive. It is also very subjective because it doesn’t work the same for every author. Many times we are taking a big gamble when we spend our marketing dollars (well at least less prolific writers such as myself are. More popular authors can afford to spend the big dollars on testing ads to get them just right. Less popular authors operate on wings and prayers). We are well aware of the old adage that it takes money to make money, but when you don’t have any to begin with, it is almost impossible.
Recently, I have re-discovered newsletter swaps. This is a cost-free and often fairly lucrative way to market ebooks without a cash outlay. I am beginning this week to swap with some other authors, so you’ll be seeing books from various authors and genres appearing in my Newsletter because other small authors and myself are sharing each others’s books. And let me just say, todays offerings are as HOT as Hell!! Check them out!
I am also still working on getting something out for you guys to read early this year. However, as you all know, I am still working a 60-hour a week day job, and a 20-hour weekend gig, so bear with me.

(Among Other Things!)
Writing for me is catharsis, but it is also a double-edged sword. Why? Because writing requires me to spend hours with my “butt in a chair, hands on keyboard” (or BICHOK, for those of you who are catchphrase savvy). Over time, my weight creeped up in epic proportions and my health has suffered, but the writing is just one part of the equation. There are many other stressors in my life that contribute to the equation that has gotten me to where I am now. But that’s neither here nor there, because I don’t care to elaborate on every single non-positive thing in my life right now. We’ll just concentrate on weight for starters.
Back in December, I had a minor medical issue which required a procedure be done in urgent care. I got on the scale and it scared the crap out of me! I had somehow allowed myself to get to a weight that I’d rather not share with you at this time. (Oh vanity!) So, I said to myself, “Self, you’ve got to do something about this pronto.” Well, pronto became New Year Resolution, and New Year Resolution became Diet, and Diet chosen became Ketogenic.
Beginning January 2nd I jumped on the bandwagon of a lot of Hollywood A-Listers and Diet Aficionados who have sworn by the Ketogenic Diet and, so far, I’m seeing promising results. As an April baby, I tend to be prone to not finishing things unless it’s a passion or something I love so much it never occurs to me to leave it incomplete. I am hoping that by telling you all about this new thing, you will keep me accountable. I am working on getting something out for you guys to read early this year. As per usual, I am working a 60-hour a week day job, and a 20-hour weekend gig, so bear with me.
