Time heals slowly

A warm breeze blows gently
Ushering in the smells of the rolling mountains
And the salty seas
As I say goodbye to my motherland
Under the blue sky where you rest
Cradled in the richness of love and death
We will meet and laugh again
With high kicks and cat swipes
And our love for action heists
Forever my heart remains full
With your soul deeply etched into my being
For that is the legacy you have left behind
As only a beloved grandmother could.

Two and a bit years have passed since my last post and admit...

A bready month

My first food post! Well, not really true because I posted something about the origin of borscht not too long ago. However, this post is a little different because I will be posting a recipe here for coconut milk hamburger buns. :) Read on aliens! I have been craving for a good hamburger for quite some time, aided by the memory of soft, springy buns baked in in my family's bakery years ago (I'm not saying when or how long otherwise you'd all be able to guess my age! :P). I grew up as a r...

Free E-book Promotion for Ice Phoenix!

I'll make this quick. Yes, I'm having a FREE e-book promotion for Ice Phoenix so head on straight to Amazon (goo.gl/gudcbi) to get your copy now! The offer has already begun and will end on midnight 5th February so tell your friends too. I just thought I'd upload some of the different versions of Ice Phoenix's covers while I was letting you know about the promotion on Amazon. My personal favourite is the original cover and the most colourful but that being said, I like all all of them. T...

How the humble borscht became a national dish in Russia

Picture The true borscht. :) Hello aliens of the world! It's been a long time since I've been tempted to write anything and I guiltily admit that I've been sorely lax with my blog's upkeep. That being said, I've also not had the time to read any new books and therefore post reviews on this site. Anyhow, before I continue any further I'd like to wish all my readers a Happy New Year and although my wishes are somewhat later than usual, they are well meant. I thought I'd share a humorous story wi...

Sometimes, being a hero means not to fight, but to lay down your arms and to trust in the other person to keep their word.

Trust. Faith. Seeing the other side of the war and giving your perceived enemy a chance to prove themselves right and you wrong. How many people out there, yourself included, can claim or would even put yourself in harm's way, at someone's word that they would protect you when the entire world paints them as evil? That is exactly what our 45 Fijian peacekeepers did in the Golan Heights. Their actions have brought about ridicule, racist taunts, reopened Pandora's box to Fiji's political histor...

Anime, Korean movies, Granny squares and meatpies

It's been another long break I know, and I have to admit, I do feel really guilty about neglecting my blog. On the upside though, I have been pretty occupied and we all know the saying, a busy gal is a happy gal! :) I'd like to say that I tried a lot of new things in February but actually, I returned to all the stuff that I loved doing and which I had dropped for a while. Like cooking for instance. Living on one's own has its advantages and disadvantages. I used to enjoy concocting diffe...

Happy Lunar New Year!

Where to begin? Let's start off with, 'Happy New Year and May You All Stay Strong and Healthy in the Year of the Horse!' I kicked it off by inviting a few friends for crispy roast pork, stir friedbroccoliand pineapple tarts last night.
Picture So, I had been feeling very bleh lately when it comes to my home life and when the weekend arrives, it takes all of my self will to drag myself out of bed to do something ... just anything. Winter doesn't help, I hibernate, hating myself for wasting the...

A shortcut isn't a shortcut! My New Year's Eve adventure.

"Hey, Lin! Look, another shortcut!" called out Aigerim, baring her teeth at me in a cheeky grin. Standing no more than twenty metres from her and breathing heavily in the quiet, almost serial killer like forest, I glared at her. The words, when they left my mouth, were completely justified.

"F*%k you and your shortcuts!" Ten minutes earlier we had just scaled an impossibly vertical hill whereby we both resembled horrible mutations of goats crossed with spiders. Meaning we had been pressed to t...
