A few years ago, I was bored by the idea of New Year's Resolutions, and wanted to try something new, that would in fact be fun and beneficial. I thought of all of the great books I was going to read sometime, but clearly never would get around to reading - not to mention the classics I had read and long since forgotten. So I thought, why not pick out one great book or classic each quarter of the year, that I have never read or have forgotten, and read it!
Pretty soon this became an enjoyable habit. It didn't interrupt my usual reading, just broadened it, and I discovered authors I had never read and probably should have read years earlier. If I can start at 65plus (and holding!), you can start now. It's a New Year's Resolution that will be fun to keep and, from Herodotus to Jane Austen and beyond, dare I say it, educational?
