My New Muse

Robert E. Lee Confederate General Civil War Southern Pride South Handcrafted Handcasted Metal Pendant Handpainted Black with silvertone ballchain necklaceLook what I got in the mail today! I know, wearing this necklace makes me a geek, but I don't care. I'm a Civil War nut and proud of it, and besides, General Lee and I share the same birthday. That makes us kindred spirits. And now he can hang around my neck and help me churn out more pages! He graduated at the top of his class at West Point, after all, and was a master of organization. If anyone can whip my muse into shape, good old Marse Robert can.

I've just finished reviewing galleys for my first erotic romance story that will be published under a different name, but no word yet on a release date. I've subbed the 2nd story of that series to my editor over at TWRP and hope to hear back soon. The two others I have with Carina Press won't be out until winter this year.

In other news, another side benefit has come about since the death of Osama bin Laden. Since that day--literally--Navy SEAL romance books have seen a spike in sales. Including mine, Cover of Darkness. Actually, the whole series has seen a bump in sales this past month. I couldn't be more thrilled about that, and I hope my new readers will learn something about the various branches of the Spec Ops and Special Forces world that they never knew before. That's my favorite compliment to receive (other than the readers loving the story and my characters, of course)--that the reader appreciates the effort I've put into research for each book. I know I won't always get all the details right, but I hope I always get most of them right :)

With my desk pretty much cleared off, I'm back working on my CCT novel, Crash and Burn. Again, I've had more great input from my CCT contact (thank you, A.L.!) and it's just a matter of getting the words down now. Hope to finish off the draft within the next couple of months.

How's everyone doing out there? If you're in an area prone to tornadoes, I hope you and yours are keeping safe and warm. My thoughts go out to to those affected by these horrific storms this year.

Wendy Looks like you got yourself a part of history there Kaylea.

And please keep us updated on your new erotica novel and what name you will be using. Can't wait!

Kaylea Cross Hi, Taryn and Wendy! Hmm, well, I'm not comfortable yet with shouting my new pen name from the rooftops, but my spicy books will be released under the name Callie Croix. A French play on my name, since that seemed like a good idea at the time, lol.

Authors choose to use multiple pen names for a variety of reasons, but I've done it so that people who see a book by Callie Croix won't identify it as being connected with Kaylea Cross, who writes military romance. I've been cautioned by other authors to make sure I keep my erotic romances very separate from my mainstream releases, to avoid reader confusion/disappointment.

That being said, the four erotic romances I have contracted right now are very heavy on the sex and extremely light on the plot, but eventually I want to bring my military action/suspense into my Callie Croix releases as well. Hopefully the two pen names will help the readers understand that Callie Croix offers an entirely different product than Kaylea Cross :) (If you know what I mean!)

I'm glad you liked Out of Her League, Taryn. I think it's actually the weakest of the books, but then I'm partial to Special Ops and action along with my romance.

Wendy, I hope you end up liking my hotter books. Like I said, they're not plot heavy. At all. *cough* These first few books are the equivalent of my baby toe in the erotic romance waters (which started on a dare from my editor, if you can believe it). But eventually I'll get more complex in terms of content. Promise!

Wendy Yes I agree with Taryn, that is a great name!

Taryn is right, there's nothing like a good erotic novel, especially if I picture my Declan in it! :p

Talk to you later!

Kaylea Cross :P Oh, Dec loves you for saying that, Wendy!

The heroes of my erotic books are all military or ex-military so far (wonder why?), and I don't see that changing. They're just too yummy to stop writing about.

Hi Kaylea,
I'm not really into erotic novels but for you... anything! :) I'll read them. I love your books and I can't wait to read your next book. Imagine, I even bought a Kindle. And the reason was basically you. Because you wrote me that your next book will be released as an ebook. But hey, so far no regrets! I can download a book within a few seconds and I don't have to wait weeks or months to get my hands on it. I'm living in Switzerland and the shops have to order them overseas. Aw, something else: I'd like to read once more a story about a yummy guy like LUKE. He is unforgettable!!

Kaylea Cross Hi, Baba! Oh, I love my Kindle too! My husband bought me one for my birthday.

You don't have to read my erotic books--I promise I'll still like you :)

The heroes are dominant alpha males, so that translates into the bedroom for them. My erotic stories aren't harsh or anything, but they're very graphic (gulp!) and won't be for everyone. And I completely understand that.

I've been to Switzerland once, and just loved it. The people there were very friendly and most took pity on us poor Canadians and spoke English to us. I tried a couple of times to use some French, and I think the locals appreciated the effort, but they still spoke in English to me :)
