Chapter 7 - Edward and Lisette's Story

Chapter 7“No!” Jonathan exclaimed when he saw the two of them walk in together.  “No not another one!”“What the hell are you excited about?” Edward replied grabbing his friend’s hand and pulling him in for a manly hug.“This,” Jonathan said waving at the two of them.  Edward had his arm around Lisette’s waist.  “Do you know how many bartenders and servers I have lost to members?  Not to mention once my members find their soul mates they don’t need to come back to the club as often.  Thankfully new members are still signing up.”“No Jonathan,” Lisette spoke up.  “We aren’t – anything.  I promise.  I know why you hired me.  I don’t want to lose this job.”“Why do you think I hired you?” Jonathan asked warily.“Because I’m too ugly for a member to – want,” she said embarrassed.  “I know you’re tired of having to hire and train replacement employees.”“You think I hired you because you’re – ugly?” he said stunned.  “No Lisette, I hired you because you are so damn beautiful.”“What?”  Now it was time for Lisette to be staggered by her boss’ words.“Did I stutter?” Jonathan drawled.  “Lisette I don’t hire ‘ugly’ people.  I hire people I think can do a good job and if I find them interesting.  Your curves and those gorgeous blue eyes of yours intrigue me.”“Really?” Lisette squeaked still stunned by what he was saying.“Yes.  In fact …”“No,” Edward growled seeing the other man’s interest in his woman.Jonathan lifted his hands in capitulation to Edward’s warning tone.  He smiled impishly at his friend.  It seemed like all his friends were finding mates.Lisette looked from one to the other not understanding what was going on.  When Jonathan smiled at her, she launched herself at him for a hug.“Thank you,” she whispered so happy that he hadn’t hired her because she was ugly.  “Thank you for this job.  I really need it.”“Sweetheart, you’re welcome,” Jonathan replied smiling wickedly at Edward who was all frowned up at the scene of his friend holding his woman so closely and enjoying it so much. When they finally parted, Edward grabbed Lisette and brought her back to his side, holding her there with an arm around her waist.  He was rewarded with her leaning into his side.Jonathan nodded his head still smiling.  He was happy for his friend.  His heart ached a little; he didn’t have a lover of his own.“I need to get to work,” Lisette said to Edward not moving from his embrace.  She leaned in closer to him, hoping …He leaned down and kissed her forehead.  “I’ll be here,” he told her indicating the bar.  “Waiting for you.”
She smiled up at him and wondered how she got so lucky.
