Check out the Bernovem Chronicles.

Kid's absolutely love this tale with Dwarfs, gnomes, fairies, talking animals, and an evil queen – all these and more can be found in The Warble, an enchanting tale of adventure and friendship.
~~~ The Shard, Victoria Simcox’s fast-paced, intricately woven sequel to The Warble, takes Kristina Kingsly and her schoolmates back to Bernovem … and into a thrilling, often dangerous adventure.
Kristina’s stay at summer horse camp is horrible to say the least, and it’s all because Hester and Davina are there as well, making her life miserable. When Hester’s cruel prank goes terribly wrong, it’s actually what sends the three girls back to the magical land of Bernovem. In Bernovem, Kristina is very excited to see her former friend, Prince Werrien. When he invites her to sail with him on his ship to his homeland Tezerel, putting it simply, Kristina can’t refuse.
Reunited with her gnome, dwarf, animal, fairy friends … and best of all, Werrien, things seem like they couldn’t get any better for Kristina. But when Werrien becomes fascinated with an unusual seeing stone, the “Black Shard”, Kristina is haunted by a ghostlike old hag. Struggling against suspicion, guilt, illness, and ultimately the one who wants to possess her soul, Kristina will see it’s in her weakest moment that she will encounter more strength than she has ever known. Review: Kristina is returning to the magical land of Bernovem in “The Shard (The Bernovem Chronicles Book 2).” A few years have passed since the events of “The Warble (The Bernovem Chronicles Book 1).” Kristina doubts her memories of her experiences in Bernovem a few years earlier. Joined by Hester and Davina, she is transported back to Bernovem where she is reunited with Prince Werrien.
Victoria Simcox’s style of writing is reminiscent of J.K. Rowling, but her voice and the saga she gives voice to are all her own. She gives each character their own unique stamp, their own identity. Kristina is full of wonder. Hester and Davina are mischievous, but each are mischievous in their own, unique way. Prince Werrien is, of course, the charmer.
Bernovem is a colorful, vibrant land filled with talking animals, gnomes and fairies. Wonders abound in this magical land. One never knows what is waiting just around the bend.
Whether a child or a child at heart, this series of fantasy tales will win you over!
Excerpt
A young man appeared amidst the trees. Kristina’s brow creased. “Who...are you?”
“Come on―has it really been that long?” He cracked a familiar smile.
Kristina’s body flooded with nerves. It can’t be? Her heart began to pound. He was taller, more muscular, his voice was deeper―and he was more handsome than she could ever have imagined. “Werrien?” She was about to run and embrace him, but Hester caught her attention. “It’s my entire fault,” Hester whimpered.Kristina spun around to face Hester. “What’s your entire fault?” “I put prickly burrs under your horse’s saddle.” “I had nothing to do with it,” another voice said, coming from behind a tree.“Oh, fur the love of haggis, not the other one as well.” Mr. Macgregor walked quickly over to the tree where he’d heard the voice.Kristina glared at Hester. “You put burrs under my saddle so that the mare would act up? I was right all along; you letting me ride that horse was too good to be true.”“I wanted to see if you could handle her when she got agitated,” Hester said in a small voice.Davina stepped out from behind the tree where she’d been hiding, fell to her knees and clasped her hands above her head. “Oh, please, God, don’t send me to hell. I’ll try to be a better person. I promise!” she lamented.Mr. Macgregor sighed. “Stand up, lassie―yoo’re not dead.” Davina opened one eye. “But you are, so that means we all must be as well.”Kristina and Werrien caught themselves staring at each other, both in awe at how the other had matured since the last time they were together.
“Um, about that…” Werrien was interrupted by branches snapping. He turned to see Hester and Davina sneaking off into the woods. He smiled artfully, withdrew his knife from its sheath, and whirled it toward the tree, ahead of them, where it hit and stuck in the trunk just above their heads. Both Davina and Hester raised their arms and dropped to their knees.
“He’s trying to kill us,” Davina blubbered. “He can’t kill us―we’re already dead,” Hester hissed.Werrien rolled his eyes. “Believe me, if I wanted to kill you, I would’ve done so.” Hester and Davina stood up.Hester wiped dirt from her pants. “I need to go look for the horses.”“That won’t be necessary,” Werrien said.“What do you mean, ‘won’t be necessary’? I’m going to catch heck if my parents find out they’re loose somewhere in these enormous woods.”“You can search all you want, but you’re not going to find them.” Hester’s eyes shot up. “What do you know?” Davina murmured in Hester’s ear, “Isn’t he trespassing on your property?”Hester’s eyes turned into slits, and her lips pursed. “You’re not only going to be arrested for attempted murder but trespassing as well.” Werrien chuckled. “I hate to burst your bubble, but this is my property.” “Uh huh. If this is your property, what’s beyond those trees?” Hester pointed ahead.“Why don’t we all go and take a look.” Werrien smiled coolly.They began walking.“See! You don’t even know. You’re gonna be so busted!” Hester marched behind the others. Werrien, Kristina and Davina, stopped. “How do you like our ranch house?” Hester smiled cockily at Werrien. “It’s pretty impressive, wouldn’t you agree?”Werrien, Kristina, and Davina stood at the edge of a bluff, and Hester would’ve tromped right over it if it weren’t for Werrien sticking his arm out in front of her. Beyond and below the cliff was a breathtaking palace.The color drained from Hester’s face. “This can’t be! My house is gone!” “Where are we?” Davina’s eyes strained as she stared everywhere.Werrien smiled at Kristina. “I guess the appropriate thing for me to say is…welcome back to Bernovem.”
