HID FROM OUR EYES on its way!

Reader, I finished it.

My last novel, THROUGH THE EVIL DAYS, was published in November, 2013. In the five years since then, I've dealt with illness (mine,) boomerang children, college drop-outs, college searches, serious depression and what feels like a statistically unlikely number of loved ones dying on me. I struggled mightily with writing, and it often felt like I was never going to get back up on the horse I so loved to ride.

Which makes it all the sweeter to tell you today that the ninth Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne mystery, HID FROM OUR EYES, is done, turned in, and in the editing process right now. The projected publication date is "Winter '20," most likely January or February.

I hope you're as pleased to hear the news as I am to write it.

Thank you, Kathy. It turned out I just needed the time to heal - I found my writing ticked up after I passed the one-year anniversary of my husband's death.

Judi Yay! Just thrilled to pieces I am!

message 15: by Maria (new)

Maria I have already noted it on my calendar! "Life" often gets in the way of our best intentions and you have certainly had your share. I hope the completion of the book truly feels like a significant hurdle cleared in your own healing.

message 16: by Jody (new)

Jody Hamilton Very excited to hear this news. I'm not remembering where we left off with Clare. Should I re-read the last book before the new one comes out?

message 17: by Judi (new)

Judi You might very well want to. I just read that last one within the last month so it is kinda fresh in my mind but I should probably read it again before next year when the new one comes out. It was very, very good!

message 18: by Karen (new)

Karen Hi Julia - so sorry to hear of all your issues over the past several years, but glad to hear you're feeling better (and writing again!). I'm new to the Clare and Russ books, but love them and going through the series quickly. My favorite part is Clare and Russ's relationship...they are so great together—their dialogue sparks and sparkles. I also love that Millers Kill and the surrounding Adirondacks are essentially their own characters. I'm familiar with that part of upstate NY and you absolutely nail it!

In my fantasy, someone makes a TV series out of these books. Have you ever thought about who you would cast as Clare and Russ?

My best wishes to you, and thanks for your books!

message 19: by Joan (new)

Joan This is such wonderful news . . . with so much difficulty in your life, I'm sure everyone is appreciates that you are able to return to writing the series we all love so much. I've just re-read the earlier books in anticipation of "Hid From Our Eyes" . . . .

message 21: by Joan (new)

Joan great news!

message 22: by Georgia (new)

Georgia Sorry to hear about all your loss and hardships. Can't wait to read the next book. (And the one right before that actually...I've been holding on to it so I wouldn't be done with the series!)

message 23: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Chatlien I'm sorry to hear about all the difficulties you have been through and glad that you are finding your way through them. The news about the 9th book is fantastic—I'm rereading all the others so I'll be ready!

message 24: by Jayne (new)

Jayne All the friends I have hooked on this series periodically ask me for updates. (Why they think I've got inside info I'm not sure) So I have been so pleased to be able to share this big news re book 9 all over FB and maybe with perfect strangers on the street. So thrilled for you and us. Blessings on you, Julia and thanks from your very grateful fans.

message 25: by Carol (new)

Carol So glad to hear of your upcoming book! I met you years ago at Murder in the Magic City in Birmingham. I told you that I was your biggest fan and you said I was your biggest LITTLE fan, which made my day! I hope you will come back to that book conference, thanks so much for reaffirming your writing in spite of such difficulties.

message 26: by Cynthia Ferguson (new)

Cynthia Ferguson I'm so happy to hear that things are better for you, and that you've continued the series. I've been trying to figure out when/if another book was going to be done, so am thrilled to hear about book 9! These two characters are so authentic, that I feel connected to them, and really wanted to know what happened. Can't wait!

message 27: by Amy (new)

Amy Heinrich I've been checking about a new book over the years, and I am delighted to hear one is coming out in early 2020. I'm very sorry to hear of the troubles you have had; I wish you continued healing and send you very best wishes.

message 28: by Ella (new)

Ella As with everyone else, I am sorry for your life issues, but so incredibly grateful for each and every book that you gift to us, your faithful readers. Thank you so much for making writing one of your ways of dealing with the issues of life. I know we all wait excitedly for the next installment (except my husband, who may divorce me because I can't seem to put these books down!) 😊 Take care and may all be well.

message 29: by Gayle (new)

Gayle Julia, my profound condolences on all of your losses and trials. Sadly, the only way over is through, but it sounds as if you're finally on the upswing again.

I am beyond thrilled about Hid From Our Eyes. I love Miller's Kill and it's denizens, and the way you have managed to incorporate religion and faith into the type of series that doesn't often allow for such things. I am not religious, but the idea of faith in the face of severe adversity is a fascinating one, and you handle it beautifully.

Welcome back to the world of writing and publishing. You have been sorely missed!!

message 30: by Ay (new)

Ay This is wonderful news. I hope everything continues on an upswing for you, resulting in more excellent books for us!

message 31: by Carol (new)

Carol Fortunate to be an early reader. Loved, loved, loved the continuation of the journey of Clare & Russ in this latest book.

As a former librarian I recommended this series to many. Even got an Episcopal Reverend interested in the series.

Do you think there will be physical e-galleys given away here? I have a friend who is oh, so jealous but does not read digitally.

message 32: by Jami (new)

Jami So thrilled to hear that you've been able to continue your writing! I absolutely love your series and your writing. The news of a new book in your series makes me think of the hymn, "Come thou long expected (Jesus)" ;-) Last line of the first verse (It brings) "Joy to every (my) longing heart". Thank you Julia and happy holidays!

message 33: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Just saw this. So thrilled! I, of course, pre-ordered it!

message 34: by Beth (new)

Beth Yes!!!

message 35: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Marie sorry to hear about all the downs in your life and I hope life will be looking up for you. I also appreciate your braveness in letting people know sometimes life, (deaths, illness, children, depression, and more depression...and I'm sure more you didn't mention ) can knock you down. But taking your time and taking care of yourself in all ways can help you get back, maybe not where you were before but to the new normal for you. Looking forward to your new novel and hoping with all my heart your life will be on an upward spiral. Love to you and yours for a wonderful 2020.

message 36: by Karen (new)

Yes, that's important. The stories build on each other.

message 39: by Catee999 (new)

Catee999 I’ve just finished reading the latest Gamache novel by Louise Penny and as I got to the last page on my Kindle, I got notification of this latest book in your series as a ‘if you liked this, you’ll like this’, and I was delighted! I read all the earlier books in the series as they came out and have looked periodically to see if you had written the next one in the series and knew you were dealing with an enormous number of life difficulties of many kinds, so I’m so glad to hear you have been able to get back to your beloved writing, and so are we all. Thanks Julia and wishing you all the very best.

message 40: by Libbrown (new)

Libbrown Just listened to the last word in your newest novel....so thankful you are back! Hoping your writing will once again give you joy.

message 41: by Carol (new)

Carol I hope that your difficult times are over. I had a rough set of years long ago and I am so much happier now, things are ironed out and I survived it. I love your books, I wish you much better times and lots of love,

message 42: by Not (new)

Not Anna I hope your dark days are over, now we are firmly post-Covid. You've left us with some heartbreaking cliff hangers and I hope to see book number ten on the shelf soon!
