An Ending

The last night, the last show.   After eight epic seasons, HBO’s GAME OF THRONES series has come to an end.

It is hard to believe it is over, if truth be told.   The years have gone past in the blink of an eye.  Can it really have been more than a decade since my manager Vince Gerardis set up a meeting at the Palm in LA, and I sat down for the first time with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for a lunch that lasted well past dinner?  I asked them if they knew who Jon Snow’s mother was.   Fortunat...

Valdemar Lenschow I am patiently looking forward to reading your version of the story's conclusion. I must admid I didn't love the show's finale (except for the fact that Ghost got a happy ending), but even if they had completely nailed the last couple of episodes, I would be wanting more. The show might look great and all, but novels can do something, that few other pieces of media are able to.

Lisa Unicorns??

message 4: by Pepitoya (new)

Pepitoya Very much excited about this! I recently bought A Game of Thrones and plan on reading it soon. I'm hoping that by the time I'm done with all the books already out, the new ones will be out. I will definitely take my time reading them. Best of luck, sir. I loved the show and loved the ending (unpopular opinion here, apparently) and expect will greatly enjoy the books. Best.

Tyler Hamm Agreed!!!!!!!!!!

Colleen I think your site has been hacked. The link posted here doesn't work, and neither do the ones that come up when searching for your Not a Blog on Google.

As we saw in ADwD, Davos is going to Skagos, where "unicorns" live

Martin Vales Maybe someone forgot to pay for the domain? Try the internet archive - wayback machine, you can see the post there.

Jamie Unlike many, apparently, I didn't hate the way the HBO show ended, even though I do think they could have taken more time to do it justice. Being a reader, I still have the next two books to look forward to.

message 11: by Isabelle (new)

Isabelle @jamie no one hates HBO it's not they fault, they wanted more seasons/episodes. D&D fucked up and ran away

message 12: by Anna (new)

Anna Vázquez It was a beautiful journey, the most beautiful work comes from the production (photography, visual, music, stunts) every who was involved do it in an amazing way, yes it was sad that every happen so fast but at less we have a decent final history. I'm looking forward to read all the new books of GOT and Westeros history.

message 13: by Nikolas (new)

Nikolas I first fell in love with A Song of Ice and Fire by reading the books. (Beware, I’m not done yet!) Watching the show was something extraordinary, yes, magical as well, although a different experience than reading a good book, of course. We are truly lucky to be nerdy in times like these, I dare say! So, thank you. Thank you for creating this fantastic destination for our imagination.

message 14: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I loved the episode and the story. Can't wait for both new books. Bravo George!

message 15: by Linas (new)

Linas It was over after the season 4.

message 16: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Sometimes I have read some of the books, and will continue reading later. But I really loved the TV series too. Its just a TV show and I dont understand all the complaints in the last weeks. I guess people have a kind of parasocial breakup, and try to blame all their feelings on D&D... But im sick of reading all the negativ comments. I guees you are too.
I hope that they dont demotivate you for the last Ice & Fire books, or for the prequel.
Thanx for giving us all this joy (and for some, frustration and other feelings)!!

message 17: by Summer (new)

Summer I so needed to read this!

message 18: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia I really enjoyed reading this blog post! So excited for the ending of GoT, I know many have had a different view of how it should have ended, but THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER, haha. Looking forward to viewing your other works in process and patiently, impatiently, waiting with all us other book nerds for Winds of Winter!! Good luck in all you do!!

message 19: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Kim I have only watched a couple of episodes because I really don't want to spoil myself. I haven't read all the books yet, only on Book 3 right now. Once I finish the books, then I will watch the series. But I will admit the books ARE MUCH BETTER than what I have seen.

message 20: by Joel (new)

Joel I didn't realize that the word "Epic" now stands for complete fucking garbage.

message 21: by RiJo (new)

RiJo RaghvaN Sped up garbage...
If only they had taken the time to organically get these characters to the end point!

E. A. George I am dying to know your point of view about season 8. Do you honestly think they did your story justice? I don't mean to be disrespectful but there were so many plot holes, and about my favourite character, Dany, the way they made her out to be the last villain was rushed and made no sense. I refuse to believe that this is what you wanted because your story is too complicated and well thought out.

I didn't blame HBO or claim anyone else did. It's obvious that many have 'very strong negative feelings' about the way the show ended. I'm not one of them.

(HBO left off as a description of the show because it seems to have confused some.)

message 24: by Jakub (new)

Jakub Didn´t like the series, unlike the books. Your books are the real thing, the show was just something like an annoying soap opera.
