ONE OF THOSE DAYS

there are days when

poems dont want to be written,

and people dont want to try

to find metaphor and analogy

for sleep and sex and salvation.

there are days when

people dont need to be poems,

but instead stick figures

on construction paper,

flat and perfect, crayon crude.
