“I think the book did a good job of dramatizing a series of events that could lead to addiction, the difficulty of overcoming it (including one scene about withdrawal), and the drastic measures people might take to get more of a drug once they’re hooked. That it’s all done through the lens of personification means that we also see the drug’s “motivation,” and what it’s trying to do as well.”
