Itty Bitty

This week I’ve been getting ready for my Romance Writers of America conference. I’ll be jumping on a plane on Friday to go to California. I’ll be signing my books at RWA’s Autographing for Literacy at the Anaheim Convention Center on Wednesday, July 25 from 5pm to 8pm. Pop in to see me if you are in the area. Ahh, but this week, I’ve been shopping. While I know a lot girls and women love shopping, I think I missed out on getting the shopping gene.

I think part of the reason I’m not the biggest fan of shopping is because for me, shopping is hard work. You see, I’m short. And it’s just hard to find things that fit. Ugh. If I had three wishes, growing a few inches would be my wish. And I would also like to have bigger feet. Do you know how hard it is to find size five and half shoes? I spent a whole day shoe shopping. Seven stores and four hours later, I finally found one pair of shoes.

I had a friend in high school, a tall friend, who wanted to be petite. While she longed to be small and cute. I longed to be tall and glamorous. I guess we always want what we don’t have, right?

But seriously, I think tall people have the advantages that us short people don’t have. I can’t put anything on top of the refrigerator without getting a chair. You should see me trying to slow dance with my six-feet-two-inch hubby. I don’t even like talking to him when we’re standing up, because I get a neck ache.

Even grocery shopping can be difficult when what I want is on the top shelve. If you’re ever in the Houston area and you see a short blonde climbing on the grocery shelves to reach the light raspberry salad dressing, it might be me.

Today in honor of being itty bitty, I’m giving away some t-shirts—itty bitty T-shirts. You see, when I ordered my first t-shirts, the small size was…extra small. So I have extra shirts in the extra small size.

So speak up itty bitty fans. This is your week. Five people will win an extra small shirt. And just so I’m not leaving out my other fans, five other people will win a Shadow Falls note pad and pen. So . . . make sure all you guys leave a comment and tell me if you are applying for the t-shirt or the note pad and pen. Sorry, due to mailing cost, only USA residents. The winners will be announced on the blog next week. So make sure you come back and see if you won and then send me your snail mail address for me to mail out your shirts and prizes.

Have a great week and I hope to see some of you in California.

Jenny I would love to win a tshirt! I have the same shoe problem. I hate trying to find shoes! Sometimes, I even look in the children's section. Thanks so much for the chance to win! Have fun at the conference!

Rachael I would love to have the t-shirt! I have the same problem sometimes and the store trying to get the stuff on the top shelves! Enjoy the conference!

Kim Sometimes being short is a blessing and a curse. I too have a very tall husband and we have to sit to talk easily with one another. Lol. I would love a notepad and pen from one of my favorite authors! Have you tried Saw or Zappos for shoes? Enjoy your trip!

Amber Well I am very tall (a little over 6 feet) and yes I can reach every shelve in the grocery store and at home, and I get asked to reach for stuff by people in the grocery store all the time, but that is not as much fun as it may seem. I think having a height between us would be the best, you know average. Because I can't find pants that are long enough for me and that takes me a whole day and countless stores when I go out shopping, and it's the reason that I've hated shopping since I turned sixteen. And always being the tallest when your with girlfriends is not fun either I always stick out that way when I just want to blend in. Pictures look silly when your head sticks above everyone so I'm always leaning down on pictures. And my wish is to find a guy that tall so I don't have to look down, because that does not feel good either (makes you feel very big) and most guys hate it. Ow and every time I'm on a plane, bus or any other form of transportation for more than 10 hours my knees hurt like crazy because they are pushed against the seat in front of me. So there are advantages to both. petite woman blend in, in a group of friends and most guys are taller, even when the woman wears heels, they don't have to sit up really straight on plains and have leg room, and tall girls can reach shelves....

Laura You are one of my favorite authors! I would love a notepad and pen. I also hate shopping; I would love to just go and get what I came there for and be done.

Betsy Hillendahl I can't wait to get my hands on whisper!!!! And while on not extremely shit (5'6'') I still have to climb on shelves sometimes!!!

Destany When me and my mom go shopping, we have the same issues. We are both short so when I want to get a pair of pants, they fit, but they are too long. When my mom shoe shops, she has a hard time looking for the right size and it takes all day just to get some of the tings we want.

Danielle I would love to get the Shadow Falls pen and notepad, I make notes for everything so I can remember; I have am horrible at remembering things. I have the same problem finding shoes but it is because I need size 11, sometimes 11 wide. I am 5'9" but I have really big feet. I am actually the shortest in my family and I have three sisters! There are still shelves in my house that I need my giant 6'5" husband to put things on for me, but I can reach high shelves at the grocery store and the library, so any time I see someone shorter trying to reach those high shelves that I can reach I try to help. :)
