Next to Normal

My my. I went to see this musical this evening because of Delia Sherman's raves about it. And she was sooo right.

I'm going to be intentionally vague here: It's about a woman who likely had a predilection towards mental illness who is driven completely off the rails by a trauma. Although she tries over the years to cope-- with talk therapy and drug therapy--her extreme dysfunction badly affects her family. This is such an unlikely topic and theme for a musical but it works.
