New Friends and Book List

I sent out some new friend requests last weekend. I used the standard GR "Check out my new books," text. I wish I had written my own text, because that's a little misleading. There are a few new books that I reviewed for publication, but I haven't added any besides them in some time.
The story behind it:
I went to a Helsinki library and visited their pop fiction room. A few thousand books. I noticed I had read close to half of them, and I thought, I should rate all these on GR. I made a handwritten list of a couple hundred authors. I spent a few hours rating books, which is why most books on my list are by a few authors, and had fun doing it. Then, there never seemed to be another few hours to continue. The list still sits on my desk. So, one of these days, when some time free appears, hopefully before retirement, I will rate them all. It's become one of those compulsive 'I must do this before I die' things. Maybe not completing it will make me live longer?

Janebbooks James...what an interesting bucket list entry....Rate all the books you have read on GR!

Ah...but you are so young...what's another few hours.
Let me go see if I've read the same couple hundred books you've read.

By the way...I'll be 80 years old in six months! And I started reading at age 14...when I could access the adult library books in that small Southern town library. One of books I read: Strange Fruit (1949) by Lillian Smith.

James Thompson Hi Jane, Perhaps when the new book is written, I'll have a go at it again. I have a sneaking suspicion that we have read MANY of the same books. I know you like thrillers. I've read hundreds or thousands. That's why I read less of them now. Plus, the overall quality by Anglo-authors seems to have declined. And by sheer numbers of books read, it's difficult to picture that we haven't read at least a couple hundred of the same books.

Jared Prebish It's funny you mention the quality of Anglo authors. Which is why I keep reading and discovering Nordic authors

James Thompson The truth hurts, don't it. The sad part is, many of the bestselling authors, who sold out and became corporate authors--meaning they don't even write the books with their names on them--are good writers. Or were.
