Hey I'll make your day for you. Dark Horse did a series of comics before Alien 3 where Newt and Hicks do not die. Check them out they were very very good both short series the first was 6 comics the second 4 and I don't remember how long the third was, though the artwork wasn't very good in the third it still has a compelling story. I knew exactly what you meant when reading that part and I was furious at that development in the story as well. Though I will say the one Ron Perlman was in was a pretty good movie though the girl that's in it isn't a good actor in my eyes.
