I just came back to a hotel room in Texas, and something ALWAYS happens in Texas…Tonight the poster art came through for the movie of #TheBookThief, and what can I say? It’s gorgeous and stunning, and perfect in its image of Liesel, caught in the act of book thievery.
If you could see me now, you’d catch me smiling…and why?
She’s many things, that girl, but to me, right now - she looks ready.

Diana must admit she does look like i imagined her when i was reading it.

Sharon I agree with Diana. She does look like I imagined her while reading it. LOVE the cover, can't wait to see the movie.

Joan Markus, the Book Thief is a truly remarkable book. As a librarian, I have recommended the book often to teens and adults. I have both read it and listened to it in audio and loved both experiences. So nice to have the film to look forward to. Seeing the movie poster, I must agree, she looks the perfect Liesel. Can't wait!

Gina Loved this book beyond words!

Diana i always feel like i'm among friends when this book is being discussed. everyone rates it so highly. its lovely to have something in common with so many people.

If Markus is happy with it, than I am too.

message 7: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Blake I never picture the character as what the actor/actress looks like, for some reason I imagined Liesel slightly younger.

message 8: by Nanci (new)

Nanci de Suffren I'm with Shannon. I thought her younger as well. I didn't know they were going to make a movie of this book. Bravo!

message 9: by Kyrsten (new)

Kyrsten Holland I think the point was to find an actress whose appearance would cover the five-year spectrum of events that make up the book. The girl they chose looks like she could be ten, but she also looks like she could be thirteen or fourteen as well, depending on costuming, hairstyle, etc. I think they made a very good casting choice; I can't wait to see Sophie Nelisse in action. I think she'll do a fantastic job.

Nancy RE: Your talk in Richardson, Texas on September 10, 2013:
You are hilarious. I see online that the FUMC sanctuary, where you spoke, holds 1,300 people, and it was packed. I've never heard so many people laugh so much.

Diana Re Nancys comment, i wish Markus would visit the UK to talk soon. It sounds like it was brilliant.

Yes I agree Marcus is a great public speaker I listened to him at the 2011 Literature Festival as St Mary's College in WA 2011 he is an inspiration and hilarious

Mona I will be the one in theatres!!

Dana Salman I didn't imagine her with such curly hair, and I thought she'd be a bit scrawnier, but the face is perfect. This movie better make me feel everything I felt in the book. I mean I liked Life of Pi but of course I felt that it hadn't captured exactly the charm of the book.

message 15: by Swati (new)

Swati Its one day after my bday :) can't wait to watch the movie :) loved the book and Liesel looks just the way I thought she would be , the background looks great too :)

message 16: by Susan (new)

Susan I am currently reading The Book Thief, and it is so beautifully written, that I often find myself having to put it down so I can give the words a chance to wash over me. I don't often do this, I usually plow through a good book..but this one, I take time to savor!

message 17: by Diana (new)

Diana thats exactly how i felt as i neared the end of the book, i desperately wanted/needed to find the story's conclusion but at the same time wanted it to go on forever.

I should have given credit:
This talk was hosted by the city, library, arts commission, and many sponsors. His talk was the major event within an annual reading program called Richardson Reads One Book. It was offered free to the public. The organizers did a wonderful job!
