#THEBOOKTHIEF: NEW POSTER. LIESEL AND HANS.

It’s been a long time since I revisited this moment in the pages of The Book Thief . It was one of the very few times when the words were just there - I only had to be quick enough to write them down:

Smoke was rising out of Liesel’s collar.

A necklace of sweat had formed around her throat.

Beneath her shirt, a book was eating her up.

I also have to admit, it’s a luxury I’m finding easy to get used to. For a decade I’ve had to conjure these images from words and pages, or somewhere far inside me. Now they show me this, and it’s almost too beautiful, too fast.

Patricia What a poignant image.
I finished the book over a month ago, but just looking at this has the tears welling up in my eyes again.
Beautiful and so sad all at the same time.

Scotti The Book Thief quickly went to my all time favorite list as soon as I read it. Now looking forward to the movie. Saw the trailer and the images were amazing.

Lynne Gorgeous. The light on the two in the foreground, illustrating the invincibility of the human spirit, with ruin and destruction looming huge all around them. The viewer can't not be moved by both.

How do I get one of these for my classroom? *scurries off to website to see if any are for sale*

I'm seeing more copies of this book on my students' desks recently. They've either heard about the movie or remembered that a parent or older sibling loved the book.

Scotti I thought it slowed down just a little in the middle, but not for long. Thinking about a re-read before the movie.

Roxanne We watched Indiana Jones as a family, and my daughter was shocked when the Nazis were burning books! Great image, almost exactly how I pictured the scene when I was reading it!!!
