This novel had a different, rather mundane working title for a long time, but recently I changed it to this, which I hope sounds both exciting and like a chess move. "Mate" also refers to a lover.
But it's a little hard to say. I either have to say "with a k" or pronounce it like the French knight in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail": "filthy English kuniggets."
Anyway, it's memorable, I hope. Coming out October 1st.
