COMMON QUESTION: Where for art thou parents?

A lot of readers speculated over where the parents were in Book 1 and/or why so much escaped their notice so I wanted to address it without giving anything away. I apologize in advance for the overly long post.

As you know:
1. Aunt Carissa is an author who was away on a book tour for 6 weeks. Her absence is in fact an important detail to the background of the story and plot but not in the way you think. It wasn't so Keiran could have his way with Lake, although it was convenient. I like puzzles and in a story like this it's never fun to give away all the answers. My advice to you... go grab your reading device...search for the phrases, "Find out why she lied." & "They were murdered." READ THE SCENES. That's all I'll say w/o spoilers. It's all about the cookie crumbs.

2. John.. Keiran's uncle and Keenan's "maybe daddy". He is an heir of an old family fortune but he spends his days running his construction business. More often than not it does take him out of town. At certain points in the story, his absence was addressed. I believe Lake questioned Keiran a few times about why he was never around and Keiran would get defensive. Those were your red flag. Parents/Guardians wasn't something I merely forgot to mention or incorporate. John's absence is also an important part of the backstory and plot. There is a reason why he stays away (by choice). You will of course, find out in Book 2.

Parents are going to be very much present in Fear You. So no worries. As I said in the blurb, secrets unfold and identities are revealed.

In a book with mystery and suspense there actually has to be mystery and suspense. There are going to be clues and there are going to be crumbs. It's up to you to find them and pick them up. If you have questions, try reading it again or reaching out to the author. I would personally love to discuss. I can't speak for other authors.

Know this, if you skip even ONE page it is very possible that you missed something very important to the plot. A single sentence or paragraph could pull an entire book together. I understand that sometimes a book starts to drag, including mine. (I'll work on that). As readers, you're tempted to skip to the good parts, so am I, but use integrity when writing a review. It is not fair to any author to say there were holes in a story knowing that you skipped over parts or DNF'd. Make sense? You also have every right not to enjoy a story. *shrugs*

Also, your questions are always valid but that comes with the territory of a non-standalone. A book may end but the story continues. Had I ended Fear Me the way I originally did there would have been more holes than swiss cheese.

Please know that I will do my best not to disappoint or leave any stones unturned. Unfortunately, the readers who decide not to read Book 2 will miss out on the conclusion of a great story and will never have their questions answered and that's their choice. I can't say that I'm not disappointed but I don't hold it against them.

The next issue I'll address is Lake's character development but not until the end of Book 2. I don't for a second regret her character or the way she turned out. It wasn't a mistake and it wasn't an overlook. The stereotype of what a strong heroine is has been done many times over. Lake is strong and I've never been more proud. She has done for her loved ones what most people wouldn't be able to do because of pride and ego and if that makes her weak, well then I guess that's okay. My characters will always be introduced raw and flawed so we can watch them grow together.

If anyone ever wants to discuss, please do not hesitate to reach out whether on Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, or email. Whatever floats your boat. I'll listen, I'll answer, and I'll even debate. :-)

This post isn't actually for anyone in particular because you guys are too awesome and I don't know what I did to deserve any of you but I wanted to get it off my chest. It's my "Dear Diary" moment. <3

Thanks for listening.

P.S. Fear Me when it began wasn't meant to be dark or nearly as complicated but it's just the way the cookie crumbles wink emoticon

Dg This book was one of the best books I read and I cant wait for book 2 - Seriously?! who cares about the parents even though I know there are in the story but this book is about Lake and Kieran not the parents. If anyone read the book then they would know the story with the parents. You are a great author and cant wait to see what happens. :)
