What I would do.....

pull out pocket knife, put slit in the back bottom of the seat on the bus (where nobody can see it). Slice book into four pieces. Slide these four pieces into the slit, side by side. Undo hair (freakishly long), take off glasses, put on coat, pull out one of the normal books in my backpack and start reading.
