No I agree with you. I think Michael Gambon was good for the movies 3-8. He was really good. But yeah I liked Richard Harris better with the 1 and 2 movies. And your opinion/explanation makes sense to me Patrick.
The shift has nothing to do with the acting ability. I watched HBP recently (it makes more sense knowing the very end), the scene where Dumbledore is on the astronomy tower and he says "Please" to Snape, yes it was done very well, and the "Please" takes on new meaning, but I know Harris could have done just as a good a job, and I know he would have developed into the character that Dumbledore is by the end, it's his job as an actor.
Richard Harris is a trained Shakespearean actor, and it's not as easy as Branagh makes it look, and therefore has the depth and capability to make it work.
I don't think that because the last films become darker is a valid argument, and maybe what I said isn't valid either. I just like Richard Harris better. I just think Gambon plays Dumbledore too seriously and the chemistry wasn't there. Sorry Gambon fans.

I agree. I still liked Michael Gambon better though. Richard Harris didn't seem to truly show who Dumbledore was to me. I don't know why.
