I'm sorry people give you so much shit for being a human being with a life outside of the stories you tell. I hope you take solace in the fact that most of the community built around your books supports you and wants you to take all the time you need, as long as you're taking care of yourself.
Sending you love! Your work has brought me so much joy. I'm very much looking forward to reading the new book and leaving a real review.
I'm just incredibly happy there's something new from you to read and it wouldn't cross my mind to write a review for a book I haven't read yet, let alone one that isn't published yet. People have become trolls on the internet, do not let it bother you! You're a fantastic writer and everything you have published so far is so enjoyable to read! I'm excited for the narrow road between desires! Sending love from Germany
As soon as I saw your review on this book in my feed, I thought "oh no, now he's gonna see all those nasty comments"...
And while totally understanding the fans' impatience&frustration, I have no understanding for the disrespectful comments some people are leaving here.
I can imagine that you can't just ignore those because you simply cannot un-read or un-think what was once processed by your brain, but I hope you find solace in the thought that all this negativity says more about the trolls than about your work as a writer.
All the support and love to my favorite storyteller in the world!
Hey Pat, don't feed the trolls. They are everywhere and their satisfaction is possible only when you are unhappy. Your true fans are here too and we are waiting for the books you wish to release. Already pre-ordered The Narrow Road. Sending love from Brazil. Be strong man.
I can understand disappointed and frustration, but the vitriol people give you for exhibiting ADHD symptoms I can't get behind. Everyone's for inclusion and health advocacy until neurodivergence and chronic illnesses don't present themselves as the whimsical versions portrayed online. It's a shame Goodreads is letting people pile on, bombing the reviews and making very nasty personal comments too. It's supposed to be against their community guidelines but this website feels more and more like it's mod-less and just surviving on its on. I look forward to reading this new book, Patrick, and to give it a fair review whether it's a good one or not. Hopefully, by the time the book is officially published, people will have realized their attitude impacts not only you but your entire team.
Instead of feeling bad about it. Apologize to donors you cheated. Who you knew you were cheating when you decided writing a new book to sell was more important than editing one chapter nearly 2 years later.
There is simply no excuse to publish a new work until that chapter. Not book 3. The chapter you owe to donors of charity is released. You keep making wild claims that it is written and not edited.
I'm calling you out. It wasn't written, you made no effort to write it, and you are trying to panic write it now. If it is written post it, or stop lying about editing it. There is no excuse.
Hiding behind a parasocial echo chamber for sure is not helping.
People are saying it’s not a new book and was a story already released in 2014 and being released under the guise of a new story? Is that true? Could you address that?
It is amazing to read one of your heartwarming reviews again! My sister read to me the one of the Last Unicorn, which moved us both so very much. Thank you!
You know, whatever happens "The Name of the Wind" will always be my favourite book no matter if there ever is gonna be another book, because it is already enough to get to know Kvothe, Denna, Elodin, Auri and all the others with their world! Some sentences will resonate inside me for my whole life, well hopefully :D You gave so much to this world already, thank you if that is it :)

This is a rewrite of "The Lightning Tree". It is so similar that they had to add a bunch of artwork to pretend it is a new story. Which don't get me wrong. Probably good artwork, but it is disingenuous to call it a new story.
More like an unabridged release.
How about instead of playing the victim, you address the money you took from fans and never followed through on your end of the bargain? How about you take responsibility for the fact that this is a republishing of a 2014 short story? You don’t get to profit from your shortcomings and then act like you’re the one being attacked here. Come on, Pat, this is absolute BS.
Why are people utterly awful sometimes? I love you, Pat. So many people do. If you never published a book after this, our love would remain. All the best to you and your family.
I just want to say that I still believe your books are some of the best books I have ever read. And yes, people are impatient for the last book of your trilogy, I know I am. That does not excuse them from being so nasty. BUT I would say it is actually impressive, and kinda flattering if you think about it, that people are so obsessed with your books that it makes them genuinely incredibly upset to not be able to finish the series.
Entitled people are the most hateful people. I am super excited for this novella and I can't wait to read it (and give it an honest review)! :)
Pat, feel proud of what you created. Everybody needs to understand to be grateful for what we had instead to complain what you dont. I dont care if you finish the 3rd book, I was happy every second when I was reading the others.
People dont say this enough, but I will. THANK YOU! <3
Pat trying to convince us that the charity chapter is a thing of the past and not at all something that he promised us:
Have there been broken promises? Yes. Are you the first author to disappoint their readers? Hardly. Do I frequently wish you were more prolific? Certainly. Do I regret a moment I’ve spent reading and rereading your work? Absolutely not. Because it’s brilliant. Your words are not just words. They’re like music, and they’re worth waiting for. I’m here for the quality, not the quantity. Your words never disappoint. So take your time. Do it right. As a fan I can forgive a broken promise. None of us are perfect. On that note, I hope you will also forgive us for being impatient.

Donors of charity don't deserve to be treated as an afterthought years later. It is frankly disturbing you are pretending to be a victim when you refuse to apologize nearly 2 years later.

Why do I see your name on every one of Rothfuss's recent posts just hating on the guy. You have serious issues troll.
Love this Pat! I may have only just got into your writing this year but your books have been in my bag through many different milestones and have opened my interests into reading more fantasy. The excitement and anticipation for publication date of Bast’s side story is very much the same as the excitement and anticipation I felt in the lead up to Legend of Zelda’s Tears of the Kingdom release day earlier this year.
Donors to charity should not expect rewards for good works. Donating to charity is and should be its own reward. It's not like the funds were misused. You just didn't get the cookie you wanted after donating. Spend a minute thinking about your priorities in life. Be glad you chose to do something worthwhile. Stop harassing an author.
Honestly, I am beyond excited for this novella. Your books are still some of the best books I have ever read. So much so that I sometimes have a hard time reading other authors’ works because they just do not compare. The King Killer Chronicles are still the first books I suggest when someone tells me they enjoy fantasy and are looking for recommendations. I do warn them about Book 3, but I am always sure to let them know they are worth having to wait for the final book. The Slow Regard of Silent Things was such a beautiful novella, I am absolutely convinced this one will be too. I know it’s a lengthening of the short story from the Rogues collection, but I also know it will captivate me the same way each of your previous books have. Then again, I may just be biased because I adore Bast. Thank you for releasing this!
I wonder why so many people could be upset of being lied once and again and then a new remix appear (oh, and a calendar).

If donors of charity shouldn't expect rewards, why offer them?
Oh, because that is how charity nearly always works. Spending an absurd amount more than the value but getting a little something.
It is super toxic to even make this claim. FFS silent auctions for charities often are the best fundraisers for charities.
In short, your opinion is toxic to charities everywhere.

Get a life man! You're so hung up on commenting hate on all of Pat's stuff that its getting to the point of obsession. If you don't like Patrick Rothfuss, fine, just leave the guy and his community alone.

You are sitting here arguing with me? Does that mean you equally don't have a life?
Or maybe comments don't take long to type. Pat intentionally cheated donors of charity. You keep ignoring that because you know there is no possible good reason to not have at minimum apologized to donors in 2 years.
I suggest you get a life and stop with the toxic capitalism for a millionaire. It is hilarious you think it is ok to take money from people and straight up ghost them.
I feel really ashamed to be a part of a community that reacts this way. Patrick, I’m deeply excited to read this new book.
And yes, to those who haven’t read it and are complaining, it is new. It is almost 200 pages longer than The Lightning Tree.
I think if we should be more supportive as a community of people who love his books. I say this in part because I doubt our negativity is going to get the book published any faster, aside from the fact that it’s just better for the world if we are more gracious and kind.
None of us really know Patrick personally. Just because we love his work does not mean that he is any less of a complete person with his own life and struggles that we can’t fully access.
3rd book or no, I’m glad to have read Patrick’s books, and I’m glad for the chance to read this new one.

Pat stole from donors of his own charity, and he has made no attempt to apologize or make things right. Pat could have made the smallest amount of effort, and the community would have been happy.
Instead, he straight up scammed us, and only tries to hide the fact by deleting anything critical of him and banning anyone that dares ask.
