I love them both, so I guess that makes it ok!
Both are amazing books, I just read Trouble with Kings last Christmas and I was squealing like a little girl because I will take as much Jason/Shavraeth as you can throw at me:)
Yeah, now that you mention it they do have a lot of similar elements. The feel is quite different. But it's like a variation on a theme told slant. And though you can draw parallels, the characters aren't the "same" by any means. It's kind of like how JK Rowling's Marauder-era characters are connected to the core members of Dumbledore's Army...
What I'm trying to say is that despite the similar patterns, it doesn't feel at all like one story is a regurgitation of the other. They stand apart, and I love them both. Maybe partly because of their similarities, because that particular cocktail just works! Crown Duel's my favorite because of the subtlety and the politics, but I reread Trouble with Kings when I want a simpler adventure romp.
