Thank you for answering. I really appreciate it. I recently reread that book, and I loved it more on my rereading. I've always loved and appreciated Barbara Havers, but in this book, she really shines, and I felt so much for her. Have to admit, I thought you'd choose PLAYING FOR THE ASHES, but any of your books could easily be a favorite. Love them all and eagerly awaiting the new one due in 2022.
In the Presence of the Enemy was the first Lynley/Havers book I actually read and it is still the one I recommend to people first, even though it's not the first in the series. Every time I think about it the story is just heartbreaking. Thank you Ms. George for the thousands of pages and hundreds of hours with these characters.
