Kristin What ever they are taught. Just like the rest of us. We are conditioned to think in words, but that's not how any of us start. As a child I asked a kid in my class who spoke another language if when I said milk, did he hear milk? He looked confused, then laughed.

We learn to think in language, but thought is much more than mere words.

S.E. Smith Excellent response, Kristin. Many of the ancient languages were symbols (which our alphabet could also be describe as). Their writing depicted visual symbols much more than our writing today.
