I though it was very creative to have modern pentathlon as a major sport in the future, given that it is always in danger of being taken out of the Olympics since it is not very popular. I think the only reason it is still in the Olympics is that Baron de Coubertin invented it.
Yes, it's one that has struggled but stayed in because of its original conception. One challenge is that it is unusually expensive both to run and to train for, a sport with many aristocratic associations. In the future as the world in general becomes more affluent, I expect it would become an easier sport to participate in.
