1210 It will be just some glowing-Hollywood-shineboy remake so i dont care really.

Im interested in other PKD films there are rumors about.

1210 You hate Valis ? Is it possible to hate a PKD novel is what im thinking. I dislike one of his but i cant imagine hating even his worst novel.

While i think its time for "The Man in the High Castle,"Martian Time Slip","Dr. Futurity"

Im going by decades 60s and 70s and then back to 50s.

1210 What have you read Simon ? Just to compare Seeing GR updates it seem like you read many of the smaller, early ones.

I dont think any of his best ones so far for me is by far better than the other.

Androids is middle level,so Dr Bloodmoney,Maze is bottom level. The rest is top level, great level.

That is fine news if you want complete collections of his short stories. He is one of few authors worth Hardcover cost for me.
1210 Keep us updated Michael if you can.
1210 Old news to me but i do hope BBC gets him better than the typical hollywood movies they made of his works.

1210 Thanks Michael for that link.

By the way i read last night Fall Upon Dull Earth short story. I was very impressed by how PKD changed his prose style and wrote a Gothic fantasy, horror story. He could have done well in Matheson,Bradbury,Shirley Jackson fields too.

1210 Now Wait for Last Year is my fav so just ahead of Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said.

Now Wait had really strong characters, strong story,a very nice take on time travel.

Dr Bloodmoney,The Three Stigmata of Dr Palmer Eldritch had very intersting stories, setting but character wise they were weaker than other PKD i have read.

1210 Ah that sounds too good, i must look up which collection its in.
Sep 03, 2010 03:08PM

1210 I have not heard about that story, dont even know if its in the collection i added to currently reading.

The title sounds interesting.

I have not read too much. I was impressed by Second Variety alot, Terminator and all the wannabes owed that story alot. Great SF/horror type story.

1210 What do you think about his short stories ? Do you like him in his shorter format ? Equally good as his mature novels ?

This topic is to talk about the short stories you liked and the ones you disliked.

1210 Heh i did think it was like a wacky PKD novel. The dreams, characters was too controlled though except Cobb and his damaged wife.

1210 PKD is seen as a visionarry not as entertaining populist fiction that dies or lives by the plot of his books.

Heh i thought plot wise this was the weakest of his good books.

1210 Michael wrote: "Maybe I'm misremembering, but I think it was more Hoppy's attitude once he became important in the community - I remember him as being over-bearing and self-important. Not surprising given his form..."

He became over-bearing because a handy was worth so much for the survivle of the community and one with his powers, mind even more. I understood for a kid that people called freak, shouldnt be alive before the emergency.

Bonny was too unlikeable even for a PKD female character. The others might have been monsters to their husbands but Bonney was extre terrible with the way she treated everyone including her kid.

1210 Michael wrote: "Hoppy's upbringing, the way he was treated as an adult and his "gifts" certainly explain why he's the man he is, and they're reasons why I found him to be a sympathetic character. However, that doe..."

He did only one bad thing though against Dangerfield. Killing the other guy was self defense.

Still i cared for him most. I disliked Bonny Keller more, she was so selfish, didnt care for her kid at all.

As a black man i found PKD writing about Stuart very interesting. A white man writing about a black guy as one of the main characters in an old SF book is unusual.
