I am not even sure how to start this review, for days I didn’t even rate this book since I was at a complete loss. Jaq with a Q is like nothing I have ever read before and I have read a lot of books that center around mental heath issues, but nothing like this.

Jaq is a troubled young adult that suffers from a myriad of mental disorders and has been institutionalized for many years. Now that Jaq is 18 yrs old, her caseworker is convinced it’s time for Jaq to live independently despite Jaq’s pleas to stay under constant supervision and medical care.

Oliver Benson is genius with a scientific mind but he’s become complacent due to lack of focus and minimal challenges. One day, Oliver’s mundane life irrevocably changes when he receives a random phone call from a female asking for his help. The request is highly suspect and actually illegal, but Jaq with a Q is determined to achieve her goal. From that moment, Oliver’s interest in peaked.

What ensues is Oliver’s obsession to help Jaq and he sees no bounds. After feeling numb for so long, Oliver has a purpose and Jaq is going to fulfill his mission. The problem is that Jaq has isolated herself inside her apartment and is afraid of almost everything. She is paranoid, anxious, scared, timid and naïve. Nevertheless, Oliver finds a way to pierce Jaq’s inner sanctum and slowly the unexpected happens.

Jettie’s books explore unconventional romances and seem to always include a close sibling connection. In this one, those elements are present. When I started this book, an air of mystery certainly surrounded the blurb but I didn’t expect the entire plot to be clouded as well. The romance is centered on two people who are fairly troubled in different ways. Jaq’s mental illness is developed and it’s blatantly obvious how her past shaped her mental state. However, with Oliver his initial motives and methods showed how lonely and unstable a person can be.

The idea that love conquers all is a stretch. While Jaq and Oliver’s love turned into a positive force, there is so much more still percolating under the surface. Her past and mental illness are serious issues and it seemed like it was just swept under the rug. Additionally, I was left with many questions based on the inclusion of repeated characters and plot elements that were left undeveloped. Finally, we have that ending! I love great twists, but such a turn still needs to be rooted in the plot and I shouldn’t have to read the second book in the duet to understand the first. The potential for mystery and truly compelling characters was great but it all fizzled for me.

This story touched me on a deeper level, I loved the innocence wrapped in tragedy, the light vs dark, the push, the pull. This story is about healing, a connection beyond the physical sense.

This has to be my favorite from Jettie thus far. I'm a dark reader, and I prepared myself for the next level of crazy, because that's how she rolls. I never expected this story to be what it was. It was so much more. I'm going with a gray read, almost vanilla for me as a dark reader. There' 5 Connected Stars!

This has to be my favorite from Jettie thus far. I'm a dark reader, and I prepared myself for the next level of crazy, because that's how she rolls. I never expected this story to be what it was. It was so much more. I'm going with a gray read, almost vanilla for me as a dark reader. There's one scene that average romance readers might find disturbing, and the age difference between the main characters could make some uncomfortable. I'm labeling this as gray romance. Not dark but not light either. With all that being said. I could not put this book down. This book touched my heart, it's going to stay with me for a long while. I'm still playing everything out in my head, in awe of it's beauty.

"I learned firsthand what it meant when the stars made love to the universe. Our lips met for the final time and forever started. By divine powers, by chance, by accident, by fluke, whatever the reason for our paths crossing, Jaq was my forever and I was hers."

As I said before, this book is nothing that I thought and everything I didn't know I needed. I fell in love right along with Ollie and Jaq. I don't think the cover for this book portrays the meaning. Yes, there's some steam, but the story touches on a different level. It's meaningful with a twist of uncertainty. It's deep yet has a bit of comedy included. It's everything rolled into a mind-blowing, heart felt, unique story.

"Jaq wasn’t complex at all. She was simple like the universe."

In all honesty I couldn't believe I devoured every word like it would be my last, I'm used to twisted, dark, sadistic books... There's something to be said about a book that has this much of a hold on me. I feel like I got the appetizer, I need the main course now. This was a full length novel, yet I wanted it to continue forever. I'm going to lose my dark title for this, but I wanted babies, and puppies, and fucking rainbows. <-- Don't tell anyone I said that. Jettie Woodruff knocked it out of the park with this one. She grabbed me from the start and didn't let go.

Well, well… where to start with this one…

Hmm… how about this is probably one of those books where I will have no rating because in all honesty, I don’t know how to… even after I’ve given it some more thoughts…

With what I’ve read of Jettie’s works, I know that I will get something I don’t expect. That, at least, is a given here. If I see it from that perspective, I suppose I could give it 5-stars. But the thing is, the whole time I was reading it, I seriously don’t know ...more

So I was enjoying this story. Jaq and Ollie were cute, but then nothing happened, I mean yes we did find out about Jaq and her past and it made sense and I felt for her but what about Ollie, his dad, the sheriff? Nothing? So I'm sad we won't get Silas' story, so I'm a bit disappointed cause I had high hopes.

Connection

People meet for different reasons at different times. This I firmly believe and Jaq and Oliver will make you believe it too. I loved their love story. You can feel Oliver's love by the patience and kindness he show Jaq. Don't wait to grab this book. ...more
